That actually made a lot of us mad when they did that. We had it, then someone abused the heck out of it. After that we had to get permission for it. I get where they’re coming from, but let those who don’t abuse it, keep it.

Well as usual the first couple loads they give the new guy (usually) good equipment and loads to make you content in your decision. Now that I’m in the pattern of “normal” it seems you get one semi decent lengthy load then a couple shorter. Add to that my 1st hometime request and it equals back to back sub $800 paydays. Not sustainable

$20 per hour on a 40 hour work week is $800 per week, that's what the Amazon residential delivery drivers make without needing a CDL to drive the small vans. And they only have 4 day work weeks and home every night obviously.
Maybe have a talk with your dispatcher, aknowledge that both of you (employer and employee) are still feeling each other out and what can you guys do to make sure you're getting the appropriate miles. Maybe they'll tell you you need to stay out longer, but then if you're staying out as long as you want to stay out then maybe it won't be a good fit?
$800 is definitely not enough to be living out of a truck and away from home for a month or more at a time. Hopefully this is just a one off thing for you and you and your dispatchers can get on the same page with getting you consistent miles.Last edited: May 13, 2026 at 4:21 PM

...and Amazon drivers have 216 or so stops every day. That's a lot of stop and go.hotrod1653 and bryan21384 Thank this.

If you're going home, a lot of times it's going to cause you to sacrifice some money. I always try to go home with a load. That way my checks stay consistent. It doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes I go home empty after a delivery Friday and don't go back til Monday..which will cause me to sacrifice the first week back out. Either the week you go home, or the week you go back out gets sacrificed....sometimes both depending on how long you stay home. Perhaps once you get back out and stay out for a bit, the money and runs will make you whole. I'd guess they were trying to keep you close by to make it easy for you to get home on time.Lonesome Thanks this.

This was my first home time since i started. The problem is payroll cutoff and the loads. I am also ticked I deadheaded over 300 miles home because they couldn’t find me a load, so another 2 checks of sucky pay. I’m giving it until June 1 to see how it plays.
JForce28 and BeHereNow97 Thank this. -
Giving it some time is definitely the right call because my experience has been very different in nearly 4 months of working here.Lonesome, BeHereNow97 and drvrtech77 Thank this.

Have you had 3 consecutive weeks of sub $800 checks? That’s where I’m at and my only decent check was an almost 3,000 mile run that landed right payroll wise, since then ☹️BeHereNow97 Thanks this.

Are you talking about gross pay? Mine have usually been $1500+ gross. The only time they're not is when the pay period doesn't line up with the loads (but then the next week I get like a $2000+ gross paycheck) or when I take home time because I'm not making money at home obviously.Last edited: May 15, 2026 at 1:26 AM

Got empty in Grandview last night and stayed the night at the TA. Headed to Richland, WA this morning to pick up a preloaded trailer going to Lewisville, TX. 34 empty miles and 1865 loaded. I scaled and encountered something I never would have thought was possible.
Exactly 80,000lbs gross. Luckily I had a full tank of fuel. Only had to slide my tandems 3 times to get it right and it was still technically over on the trailer. There's always a little leeway in axle weights though, so I ran with the 60 pounds over.Last edited: May 15, 2026 at 1:49 AM
