1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hi yall. I'm about to get my permit and I'm probably going to the truck driving institute in Mississippi. My problem is this: i have a cat and a dog (50+lbs). I've only been able to find someone to take care of them while I'm in training, I NEED a job where I can take them on the road with me ASAP. I found Wilson Logistics has a good pet policy but I'm hesitant to indenture myself to a company. I've just not been able to find any companies that hire new grads that have a generous enough pet policy to accommodate 2 pets with one of them being large. I'm sure there are companies, and location and pay are NOT issues. My main priority is my pets. I am a woman though, I can lift my dog but I'd rather not be slinging 50lb tarps but I'll do it for them if I have to lol. I did travel with my ex for about 6 months so while I don't have driving experience I do have some experience with the lifestyle and what I'm getting into. I'm just curious about recommendations for companies to reach out to and if they exist because so far Wilson is all I've found like I said.

Don't completely rule out Wilson Logistics. A 12 month contract is ok. If a company is willing to train you, plus pay you $900 weekly during training, it's not unreasonable to want you to have some "skin in the game."

I really don't mind at all, my big concern is having issues once they fly me out, because i don't have the money to get myself home if I fail training. Which hopefully isn't an issue. But the people who are helping me fund everything REALLY want me to go to truck driving institute and if I went out to Wilson and something happened they'd be pretty ticked off at me. ‍♀️ Doing truck driving institute does open more options but Wilson does sound like a great company but truck driving institute does help you get your permit too so. ‍♀️

Truck Driver Institute seems the best path for you.

Find someone to care for the pets until your training is complete. After training is complete and you're assigned your own truck, then the companies will let you take the pets with you.
