Listen, carbs are poison, we don't need them. Your job as a truck driver is already stressful and you're not getting enough and consistent sleep. On top of that if you keep ingesting carbs, you're going to kill yourself.
Watch how high this guy's fasting glucose level is because of lack of sleep. Now imagine if this guy eats a large Big Mac meal with a large Coca Cola.
Its not just that carbs and sugar can cause diabetes, it's not just that. There's something dangerous called insulin resistance which can cause all kinds of health problems, including high blood pressure and fatty liver.
So if you're already stressed and don't get enough sleep, do not make things a lot worse for yourself by eating carbs. If you have a sweet tooth and crave something sweet, eat some raspberries with an avocado and some macadamia nuts and call it good. Having a few grams of carbs mixed with healthy fats and protein is fine.
Take care of your health, for the sake of your loved ones

Good general advice but its not as easy as "eat less garbage" sadly. And while for some drivers who can stop at a walmart every night it may not be too bad. For many more of us its hard to get by a store consistantly let alone reliably for fresh avicados. So id say the advice needs to be temepered by reality.
Also there are good carbs, neutral carbs and bad carbs. For example, a baked sweet potato is pretty good for you, so are lentils and they make for good food. Lots of mcdiarrheabasedfoodproduct in a sack. Or candy or white bread. Less so. Even stuff like pasta is fine on occasion or as a base to a healthy meal. Its all in prep and amounts.
Sugar, no arguments if they could figure out how to put sugar into sugar and make sugar squared in food they bloody would it feels like. But whats going to get a LOT of drivers aint going to be carbs or sugar. Its going to be constant sitting, excessive caffine (like seriously i know one dude thst pounds 3 or 4 monsters....a day and another who drinks so much coffee he bleeds it) overeating and in general poor diet more then a specific thing. Just generally doing your best to not overeat, move around and trying your best to eat better will do far more for your health then "avoid the thing".
Also as for sleep. Unless your up all night playing video games or some crap most drivers SHOULD be getting 6 to 8 hours. And even there, it varys on how much someone needs. Im fine on 5-6 hours and much more then that and i feel like crap. My dad needs 9 to be funcrional and always has. If someone is not getting enough sleep they have diffrent issues.EastCoastResident, Sons Hero, DUNE-T and 1 other person Thank this. -
Carbs are not bad if you eat the right ones, the complex ones.....nuts, beans, brown rice, oatmeal. I'm eating beans as we speak. It's healthy and you'll fart a lot.

Cut out sugar along time ago, sugar is the root of all evil for me, carbs I can and do go without bread, don't think I have eaten bread on like 8 or so years. But like other people have said complex carbs are not unhealthy, you need far less of them in this job than anyother where you are active the whole time, but just sitting and driving, you really don't.

All carbs, whether complex or not cause sugar spike and insuline resistance. You will be shocked when you see how little the difference in Sugar spike between white bread and whole bread is. Search it. Your body doesn't really need carbs, your liver is perfectly capable of producing sugar.
If you like beans, eat only soybeans, they have the most protein and the least carbsLast edited: May 15, 2026 at 7:18 PM

You can always store boiled eggs and sardines in the truck. And nuts and seeds. Trust me, those four are all you need till you get to a store. They are extremely nutritiousbryan21384 Thanks this.

Excess sugar consumption is also linked to dementia. Sugar is bad for brain cells. Sugar is so horrible that even wounds don't heal in it's presence. If you have l visceral fat, that's the number one sign you have insulin resistance. You will lose that fat when you stop eating carbs

Those of you who have high blood pressure problem and you watch out your salt intake, you need to realize the main culprit. The main culprit is not sodium, its insulin. When there's insulin in the blood, kidney does not expel sodium and holds on to it

Around 9:00 in the morning I had this with black coffee, 4:30 now and my appetite is completely dead

I buy bulk milsurp freeze dried persionally. Youed be amazed how much food comes in a crate of #10 cans and how actully cheep it is once you get past the sticker shock. Im just point out the flaw in your logic, plus a LOT of drivers are also living hand to mouth, usually the bad or new ones but enough that really cant afford to stock up since they barely can afford food the same day they are paid. Or are nut cases like me who spend more time in the middle of nowhere then in towns or citys. Also eww. Sardines are the single most vile thing on earth in MY opinion lol. And i cant do eggs. Or chicken products usually. Just eww.bryan21384, EastCoastResident and Bus_driver Thank this.
