Idiots like that are a huge reason many people have such a bad attitude towards law enforcement.
I have had numerous similar run ins, but the most blatant was the time I got pulled over with my brand new walking floor.
It was a rain/snow mix coming down, and they don’t know how to drive in the panhandle of Texas when that happens. A semi had piled it up in the median, so traffic was down to one lane, and poking along at 15 mph. My 5 year old was riding with me, and just as we were passing the scene, he unbuckled his seat belt and jumped out of his booster seat to get a better look.
An officer saw him do that, left the scene, and pulled me over about 5 miles down the road.
Wondered where the tag for my trailer was , so I picked my temporary paper tag up, and handed it to him, along with my BOL, insurance, etc.
After he gets done reaming me out for my son jumping out of his booster, he goes back to his Tahoe.
When he got done with the paperwork, he motions for me to come back there.
He gave me another chewing about my son, and hands everything back to me.
I see that he has also written me up for no tag displayed on the trailer.
I says to him, “What’s this for?”
He says, “You don’t have the tag on the trailer where it’s supposed to be.” And points to the spot below the back doors.
I says to him, “It’s raining, it’s a paper tag, you know I’m loaded, and got 30 miles to my delivery. If I display that paper tag like you want, it’d be in that feed pile at the last dairy I delivered at, and then I’d have zero proof that this trailer is registered.”
He says, “That’s not my problem. The law says you are supposed to display the tag, and you aren’t displaying it. You had it in the cab.”
I was so mad at that point I was seeing red, but I managed to bite my tongue, and walk back to the truck without doing anything stupid.

One time I got pulled over for going 65 right in front of the 65 mile an hour sign. He wrote me a warning on an inspection for going 65 in a 45 because I asked him if he wanted one of the sugar cookies I was eating.
