Kevin says he tries to live by two pieces of advice he once received.
"One, it's their culture. You don't have to forget your culture, but plug into theirs. And then two, try to make most of your life an adventure," he said. "And if you do those two things, you should be OK."mjd4277, Flat Earth Trucker and rollin coal Thank this. -
"Though it's difficult to determine exactly how many American retirees live in Thailand, at least 7,178 retirees there received Social Security benefits as of December 2024."

Rollin Coal has been to China and knows it's a great, safe place to vacation or even settle down in after retirement. Cheap rent and don't need a car because public transportation is so clean, cheap and efficient. .38 cents in US money to ride a clean city bus.mjd4277, rollin coal and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this.

We only rode a bus once. These little 3 wheeled battery powered carts were everywhere and what we used all the time they will take you anywhere in town for cheap.

I had a two-wheeler and a 3 wheeler. Much better than owning a car. Bought a car and sold it within 2 months. Don't need a car there. My electric two-wheeler had the umbrella and a windshield. Can just fold the umbrella when not needed.

My two wheeler was similar to this one: I put a small wooden stool on the area in front of the seat for my son to sit on, then my wife sat behind me. I'd tie a case of toilet paper over the front wheel and have plastic bags of groceries hanging all over the back of it. That's very common to see over there. Lots of fun also; love the culture.

The people are courteous and watch out for each other on those scooters.
