Welcome aboard, , and you'll get a bunch of opinions. Always entertaining, but at your expense, sadly. Many will say, a Dollar General account is the bottom of the barrel, and depending on your experience, it could be that. It's quite the opposite of a "drop and hook" account, that most prefer. Some like the DG accounts. It's all hand unload, but I believe you get compensated, and plan on spending all day at one. That severely cuts into your actual mileage, and why many move on. Whether companies like it or not, miles=money, not fingerprinting paper towels for $5/hr. The up side, is you will experience what REAL trucking is about, something you'll never get from a "drop and hook" job. I believe it is a "dedicated" account, and you can have a life, home Fri-Sun is a sweet deal in trucking and to some, worth more than dollars. Not sure about pay, maybe $1800 gross, or about $93K/year, seems a bit high, about the industry standard, but I wouldn't count on that as gospel. I'm sure they run generic equipment, but adequate. Driver assist unloads. Floor loads that the driver puts on a roller ramp one box at a time.

 

Around here the carrier handling the Family Dollar/Dollar General account is CR England. Before I retired, I looked into it. The money is there! $29 to $31 per hour hour to start and OT after 40. The work week is typically pushing close to 70 hours, so with the OT a driver could make $2100 to $2400 per week.

Make no mistake though, it's as much a labor job as it is a driving job. Not a gig for older or not in shape drivers.

 

Forget CRST.
