I just accepted a Road Driver position at TForce. Do I stay, run, or run far away? I've only ever done local work but 15 months of experience isn't opening any doors that I need.

It very much depends on what terminal you're out of, what classification you are etc.

Can i ask what region you are out of? You don't have to say what terminal you're out of though.

Have you been assigned a Niteliner run (if we still use that term?)? Are you an 800 or 900 series driver?

This was, hands down, the best job i've ever had trucking or otherwise. The only reason i went back to city is because of the sleep factor----and that's another thing---if you can't sleep well during the day, then this probably won't work.

    P.S.
i was mostly a "900" series driver----an "extra board" type driver meaning you would go anywhere central dispatch needed you to go. i lost track but probably been to most terminals in the N..E. 20 or 30 terminals?

i occasionally did Niteliner runs where you go directly to a Hub terminal from your home terminal, maybe work the dock a few hours, and then bring a load back to your home terminal. i think dockwork is now optional for road drivers, but not 100% sure on this?

i called running the road "Suburban Money." Meaning you could comfortably afford a new Suburban with this gig. And, it's even not a job, it's an adventure.

We are talking $100,000+ just for showing up. And decent benefits for you and fam.

I am in the southwest US but I have zero grasp on the terminology and union stuff. All of this is new to me.

So, a lot will depend on which terminal you're out of, where your nearest hub is, how freight is---heavy, light, medium.

We still have a few brown tractors, from when we were UPSF, but recently subbed in for road and went to Grumpyburg (Harrisburg HRS) and there's a whole mess of them in various states of disassembly so i assume we are getting ready to scrap them? In other words, we are getting rid of them, and you'll likely be assigned a newer white(with red and blue stripes) Liner, volvo or kw. Bad news----68mph unless the routes you'll be using have a speed limit of 70 or higher. In that case, you get 70mph. Anyone who knows different, please post here.

You can scroll thru this entire thread to see how much i was making as a road driver. Keep in mind when i first started road, i was not at top pay---i was at 3/4 pay and still made $77K+ the first year while passing to junior drivers as much as possible; i didn't run as much as i could.

Really, it goes back to what i was saying: If you can't sleep during the day, this isn't going to work.

Get those professional, pitch black, shades. i'll try to find a link.

Tell the spouse and shorties ABSOLUTE QUIET when you are asleep----homework and video games ok. Then, when you wake up and are gone, THEN they can cut loose.
