I was born in Fort Lauderdale and spent most of my youth in Davie, moved to the Dania area before we moved over to Cape Coral in 2006, it was amazing coming from the overcrowded nightmare Lauderdale was, then over the next decade everybody followed us and this little ghost town called Cape Coral became this massively overcrowded thing it is now.
I didn’t leave Florida by my choice, I left Florida because I understood that even with dual income from me and my girlfriend and no plans for kids we were drowning in the cheap part of town. 2k a month for a 2/2 duplex half with nothing included, 300+electric bills to keep the place at 78, water was going past 140, and car insurances were absurd, mine alone was almost 300 for bare legal requirement on a 16k$ Kia with no accidents, tickets, nothing. The position we were in was untenable to say the least.
Coming to Indiana was a massive financial relief for us, however while I held the job I had in Florida with Publix for 15 years I only made 21.65 an hour there after all that time. Girlfriend didn’t even make 20 after 10 years there and we both were full time.

Home insurance in Florida has also gone up much more. That hurts many people on fixed income.
If you ever decide to move again, come on out to Nevada. I'm originally from Tennessee. I'm in Henderson/Las Vegas right now. There's no personal income taxes here and also no taxes on food at the grocery stores. Even though I'm in Henderson, NV, I can see the Las Vegas Strip from my living room window; just a few minutes away.GhostInTheMachine Thanks this. -
I'll give you a few more company names. If you're not interested in them, maybe some of you're classmates will be.

The first year kind of sucks where ever, mostly while you get acustom to life on the road, Just make a plan and stick to it , in the long run it works.

Gary used to be a nice place, from what I've heard. U.S. steel's gary works actually remains the biggest steel mill in america, but after the industry restructured, they lost most of their jobs and tax base. Classic story of a rust belt city being hollowed out. Their experience is exactly why I'm not at all optimistic about how the coming wave of AI and automation is going to affect everyday folks who aren't major shareholders in tech companies. There’s nothing there you really need to see, and FWIW I have always avoided stopping there at night.

Im going in with this exact mindset, I know my first 30 days are where I need to establish some habits and routines that are not time slotted to handle stuff like lunches, breaks, and sleep. Then make it through the first 365 solo, I’m told most places want 90 days before you get a rider and passenger allowed so that is going to be the absolute hardest part to test everything I’m planning. Once I have my girlfriend and cat with me, we can just storage up, put the car at the company lot or somewhere it’s cheap to store until we pay it off, and just slam money away. I used to have a massive investment portfolio based on dividends mainly for some passive income, selling all of that helped me get to Indiana so I want it all back.
We both have only ever seen South Florida all our lives, I didn’t go past Orlando myself until 2019 and I’ve never even gone into Miami so I’ve got a lot to see. So the 2 years after my first year while they will be easier than the first, I know that is where I need to get that experience logged and stay safe for my record to get into a position to just be comfortable, I don’t need a million dollars, I just want to be stable and that’s the goal.Ddh77777 Thanks this.
