As a former W/S driver (not a student or trainee), I'd bet a weeks pay their 10 day drivers have a much better safety rating and LESS accidents than most 30-45 day driver mill companies.
Unlike the "big" driver mills. W&S tries to allow these drivers time to get the feel of driving...before they ask them to deliver a load to the Bronx.
Training is hands on, and can last into the night. Drivers who are uncomfortable backing, are offered additional time in the evenings to work the yard.
Driving consist of REAL mountain grades and how to drive those grades, with a load. Not the BS that others are taught. I can't tell you how many 30 day students I've seen and heard of, that freeze when they hit real mountains for the first time.
I'll give $50 to any 10 year vet that goes into their Sayreville yard on a busy day, and tells me dropping a trailer on the yard (in a hole) is a piece of cake. Yet these 10 day "students" do it. It ain't pretty, but they do it.
Don't knock it, until you've seen it in action.soon2betrucking and JerrytAZ Thank this. -
Not if you're speaking of W&S. They are far from being a bottom feeder.soon2betrucking Thanks this.

Wow. That was interesting. Miss a day on this thread and all kinds of stuff went on. That ol Kabar sure does like to stir the pot. If WS has been training this way for 30 yrs and it's working I don't think anybody is going to make them change their practices. They sure seem like a very safety conscious company to me from what I have read and studied about them. Looking forward to being with them down the line. You all have a great day.

Oh Lordy! I am scared to death to get behind the wheel of my Volvo after reading Kabar's post! I get cold shivers just thinking about being on the big road now. I don't how I've been so lucky to survive this long. I went to the 10 day class and my first load was hauling paper rolls out of Smurfit Stone, grossed out going through the Rockies in the winter.

Sweet Jesus! I was fooling myself all along and didn't even know it!
Getting back to reality. If the instructors at W/S don't believe 100% that you are able to handle yourself and their equipment on your own, you will be packing your bags and going home... seen it first hand with a student while I was going through the class. Not everyone in today's society needs to have their hand held to make it through life's hurdles, thank goodness there are companies like W/S that believe the very same. -
"Dude" lose the horrible font... seriously.
I've always liked how rookies always brag about how much money they made in the past and co's they've created on here, but yet they're starting out all over again in life with a 40k job at a late age. Quit trying to prove yourself to this guy, you're no better rookie than the rest. Green behind the ears.Kabar Thanks this. -
You too eh ?? LMAO
I'd rather be referred to as a n***** than dude.
Where did I lay my bong ?? Anybody ?
