Yeah, that's what happened to me at JB unt Denver...I did a spreadsheet for when I was there: 1hr average, per day, of truck-breakdown time. Not worth inspecting 10 chassis in a day.

Here in the PNW, theres alot of sleepers pulling containers. We get alot of heavy haul containers as well
-
Your company is obviously short on freight…for whatever reasons

I'm not looking elsewhere for work (I already applied to 50 places September-December and only had 5 solids replies and only 2 good matches for me).
Rather, I'm pointing out what CAN be a legitimate (yet not so great) average or median for OTR at a mega. It could be ANY of the megas...the grass isn't greener on the other side...if I switched to another mega now I'd wind up 4 months down the road seeing the averages be the same.
The thing that really brings the average down is the two separate weeks I spent waiting for my truck to even be diagnosed by in-company mechanics...I think next time something needs repair on the truck I'll just "breakdown" in the middle of nowhere far away from a company terminal so an outside 3rd party mechanic shop can fix it in a day.JForce28 and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
If that was 3 days on & 4 days off, I'd take it. Even if it was an 1800 mile roundtrip with 2 nights in the bunk, I'd take it
But that's just me.... -
Remember, these are just averages...I will occasionally get a nice 2,600 mile week or a 70hr week, but so far they are few.

"Slow on freight" in the springtime is ########. They're slow because they overhire and don't want one guy making good money. 930 a week is 2016 wages that company can go #### themselves
Gearjammin' Penguin, JForce28 and firemedic2816 Thank this. -
This reminds me of my time at Swift when I first started out however I seem to remember the cpm back then only being like .24cpm or so. This was circa 2001
-
I think if that works out for you, then go for it. But you're saying 930 a week is 45k a year. Ok, but do you ever plan on going home? And that 930 is before taxes. 930 after taxes is like 7 bills and change.
With your small amount of driving experience, I'd say just stick that out. I was making 38cpm to start. But I stuck with that company over 2 years so when I quit, I put out 5 job applications and got 5 job offers. My pay immediately doubled with my 2nd job. -
Awesome awesome. Yep, I'm getting in my OTR experience and then hoping to get into Cryogenic. $930/wk isn't much, but I pay no rent, no mortgage, no spouse, no kids, etc. No home to go to, but I do visit friends a lot. 11 of us went to Seattle Symphony, 13 of us went to Colorado Symphony, 4 of us went to New Mexico Philharmonic, had lunch with a friend in Sparks, NV, with my brother in Phx, AZ, with a friend in Portland, OR. That's home enough for me.
