    Hi TT,

If you don't mind me asking, when did you get your "Welcome Package" and information on your hotel and the like before you actually left for orientation? I am due to check into my hotel in Dallas in one week and have not yet gotten any info on where. I tried to call the recruiter today and only got voice mail. I guess they were out of the office today. I will try again on Monday, but any info you could provide now may help ease my mind.

Hey Twisted!! FMLA, Family Medical Leave of Absence. It's basically a program backed by federal law, that will allow a person up to 12 weeks in a rolling year, off, to care for a relative, usually, due to medical conditions. One could be off for their own care as well, such as pregnancy. You do not get paid for the time off. There are a few different ways to take the time, it could be hours, days, or weeks.
That's quite a basic explanation, but you get the picture. One of the requirements is that you have been employed by the same employer for the previous 12 month's, and have accrued a certain number of hours working. I can't recall the number of hours, 1200 rings a bell.
An employer CAN NOT refuse this time off due to FEDERAL law, and CAN NOT add any additional requirements of their own. The guide lines are very simple, a caveman/cavewoman could figure it out.
It does require a Physicians statement, and the paper work is deemed confidential.
It's a good program, and should not be abused. Not that it isn't, but let's all have a conscience here.
Also, when on FMLA, by law, you can not lose seniority, pay raises, and any job openings that became available while you are off. Basically, again, you come back in the spot you were in when you left.

I recall woman being fired because they were pregnant, employees being fired because they had to care for a relative, etc. Some companies are real lowlifes, and this program protects you from them.
Now where I was, all these things happened, I saw it, and was embroiled with a few cases. It's simply pathetic, that when a person is having a rough time, that employer has to be heavy handed, and make the situation even worse.

SNI gave me NO hardtime, and was VERY supportive in my mind when I requested it. I told my DBL what I needed, and within the day, I had all the info I needed, including phone numbers and names. I expected a few problems, but none arose. These guys have their act together.

Wow, likely more than you wanted, eh?:biggrin_2559:

Johnday, Thanks for explaining that to me. Wow! That impresses me even more with this company than I already am. Definately not something to be abused as one might really need it sometime down the line. Didn't even know a program like FMLA existed. That may someday be a real blessing for me with a wife at home with rheumatoid arthritis and fibro myalgia. And, by the way, I can never get too much information from you.

Hey Bigcove, I got the info you're talking about via E-mail from my recruiter and you're right; your recruiter is probably gone for the weekend but I'm sure you'll get all the info you require and then some before you get to Dallas orientation. Good luck, and let us know how it goes for you. I'll be happy to give you any info I can in the mean time. Twisted

Thanks TT, words like that make it worthwhile, but still haven't learned to walk on water. LOL:biggrin_2559:. Still practicing, but just can't make it work. What am I doing wrong?LOL.:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:

Your wife's problems are exactly what the program was designed for.:biggrin_25525:

Don't worry, you're probably not doing anything wrong. I can't walk on water either but my one remaining goal in life is to build an 18 ft. ballast keel sailboat, designed by Ricelli known as the "Discreet", so I can sail across the Core Sound of NC to pick an island where I can expose myself to the rising sun and lots of dolphins. If I can do that, maybe I'll at least feel like I can walk on water.

That method is to insure that the trailer does not roll away while your trying to back under it. Even emergency brakes can fail!

Are you referring to hooking your airlines and pigtail prior to backing under?:biggrin_255:
