Like I said...I said before...I've always been lucky enough to associate myself with good honest people when it comes to leasing..That and I always do my homework before I sign on the dotted line.
After being out here for as many years as I have now, I know a lot of people and will always have a place to go regardless of what's going on in the business or with the carrier that I'm with.

Yeah, I have a place to go also but I just associate with a little different crowd these days.
We have some contacts and have told them we will be up and running soon.
As far as homework goes I try and look at all the angles, options, what have ya before I commit. -
All you can do is...Do your best to make the right choice.
The rest comes down to the luck of the draw. -
hrdman2luv Thanks this.

I have read your posts here, well spoken!
Yes I'm a newbie to the business, but not new to trucking.
When my dad, rest his soul,
got back from Korea,
he got into the business, and continued trucking well into the early 90s,
as soon as I was old enough to come with him , I went everywhere with him, LOVED IT!
He made $ too,
we were the only house in our area with a "cement pond".
Our neighbors often wondered, how can a trucker afford that house and other things,
( nothing special, paid for, no mortgage),
vacations,
2 brand new cars every 2 years,
( a Chevy/Cadillac man, he paid cash for his cars every time, he would always sell his "old" cars to my uncle, his brother, every time), etc......
I saw more of this beautiful country by the time I was 7 then other kids saw their whole life.
He would take out of school during the winter for southern runs, and insist to my principal to give me 2 weeks of homework and then MAKE me do my homework in the truck, then test AND quiz me from the drivers seat!
And if I didn't complete my homework correctly , he would make do all all over again!
I don't think that would fly in today's schools.
Yeah he was an old head, seasoned veteran, city raised, thick skin, would do anything for another trucker, great man.
I saw that when I was running w/him even at 6-8 years old .
The other truckers were the same way back then.
I remember he got consistent runs originating in the Georgia area with one his friends from Korea,
( good old boy that would bust my dad's bxxxx all the time about being a city boy!),
they knew each other really well from years in Korea.
I stayed with their family one entire summer, then again the next summer ,
4 boy's in their family, being boys we had a blast!
We probably drove our dad's crazy in the trucks at that time,
( I was in my dad's truck and they were in their dad's truck either in front or behind on the road)
with the CB radio, spilling stuff on the inside of the truck,etc.....
Great memories!
I don't know if most of today's owner's are that way, most I have met have been good guy's.
Me personally,
I think the business is not what used to be due the fact that the manufacturing companies, shipping companies, brokers, etc. have gotten entirely too greedy and have soiled this business.
southernpride,
great reading your post's!
