Why would you want a slobbering boat anchor?:biggrin_25522:

Run away from that truck as fast as you can.

The gas patch in sw pa, haven't had alot of time to get on the computer. Driving a new kw with a ISX 550 hp and I think cummins is rating hp the way detroit does it says 550 but I say not even close

  4. Just a thought here, DEFINITELY just thinking out load. My tractor displays some of the traits you describe above. Different color seat? CHeck. Different Color Sleeper? Check. Fuel tanks don't match? Check. Mine only has 1.6 million on it now with no rebuild. It's NEVER left me on the side of the road. It's a good old truck and I am going to regret replacing it. I'm just having a hard time jumping over to the EGR worls, so I'm contemplating options. GLider Kits, rebuild, "EGR-ectomy" on a newer truck, etc.

As to the mismatching....Well, I like to FIX something when I see problems beginning. I try my best to fix things BEFORE a breakdown. Seat got worn out, so I replaced it. Sleeper doesn't quite match? Well, I got hung up in a tornado one night and a road construction sign speared a hole in the sleeper, necessitating the repair. Fuel tanks not matching? It used to have one split tank on it for a PTO. I wanted the extra fuel capacity.

I have ALL the maintenance records for my truck along with a logbook with entries I've made about each repair. What was done, why, what I'd do differently. so on and so forth.

I've done lots of little mods to my tractor. I replaced the carpet with a thick rubber horse stall mat cut to fit perfectly. Even removed all of the trim to make it look factory. It makes the truck VERY quiet inside. It's got ALL new front end parts, steering wheel all the way out to the hubs, and it drives PERFECTLY. I've sealed all the window and door leaks and re-done the headliner with plywood covered in cloth and insulated the crap out of the space between the new headliner and the roof. Same with the interior of the doors. Makes a huge difference in the summer. I did a lot of custom, but inexpensive lighting inside since 99% of my trucking is at night. IT still looks cobbled together on the outside (needs paint all over), but it is a great riding, driving and quiet riding truck, especially for a Freightliner.

I'd keep my old shaker and rebuild it from now on if the cab was bigger. I really want more room and a little longer tractor. That would be too radical of a change to make a refurbishment feasible.

I wouldn't automatically run away from a truck that looks "cobbled together" but I'd sure want to know why. It may be like mine and mechanically excellent, save for an inevitable upcoming engine replacement.

If it's a privately owned truck and not off of a lot, and the guy has good records of all the problems and how they were corrected, it may be worth a closer look. If I sell mine, someone will get what I think would be a good deal on an old truck. They'd know exactly what they were getting.

Again, just idle bored thinking out loud, via keyboard.

without a picture and without looking at the truck.
    1. maybe he wanted a bigger/smaller sleeper
    2. saddle blanket seat covers will fix the mismatch interior for less than 100 bills, and look nice too.
    3. paint will hid all different mothers of origin, but you must factor that into the equation.
    4. some are hobbled together, and some are changed to suit the drivers taste/ vocation , and they never got around to the final step which is blending it all into an acceptable looking conversion. that really is the question you need to ask yourself. is this a work that is simply unfinished , or it is a work that is more and more work?
    5. my money goes to a detroit pre egr. i average nearly 7 in mine. and i had grader motors in every truck prior to my latest one. free advice and worth every penny. johnny

Thanks guys. The different fuel tanks was due to some lady slamming into him during an ice storm. I asked him if he was unable to collect insurance and hence the reason for the used odd color tank and he told me that her insurance company paid in full......

    So? :biggrin_2556:

All of the rest of the changes were done BEFORE he had the rig except for the seat. Its a Pete logo seat that he bought at a Pete dealer. Told me he got a good deal on it - that made sense....

No paper work or paper trail for anything else. I believe that it's prolly a good truck and a good runner, but with the unrepaired deer damage and the rest of the situation, it's just not special enough for me to consider - especially with what else is out there for sale.....
