Elon Musk is now disgustingly, unfathomably rich
One million pounds is about the weight of about 7,350 people, enough to fill a small stadium. One billion pounds is the weight of 7.4 million people, or about the size of the Houston metro area. One trillion pounds is, by one study, more than the weight of every human being on Earth combined. (The average global weight of a human is generally estimated to be 62 kilograms, or 136 pounds.)

One thing I like about him..all his patents can be used by anyone.
You can literally build a Tesla with his patents and have no legal problems..In fact that’s what he desires people would do. -
I just watched this yesterday.. fascinating what spacex is building in the future and they have litterally zero competition . How could ya not wanna put all ur money on this company?
austinmike, Concorde and The_vett Thank this. -
There was a lady interviewed on Bloomberg who invests heavily in Tesla. They asked her if she was going to buy SpaceEx and she said NO. Her explanation was Elon had said his plans were to merge Tesla and SpaceEx in 2027 and she would make a ton of money just by waiting on the stock swap.

Ol Donny must be jealous. But just like Doony, Elon starts a lot of stuff but rarely finishes.

Yeah . . ., not so much.
"Essentially, Tesla’s patents are only free to use if: you do not enforce any right against Tesla, you do not enforce any patent right against another party, you do not oppose Tesla’s patents or copy Tesla’s designs. Using Tesla’s technology would essentially make any other company’s own intellectual property rights redundant. On the other hand, Tesla benefits from the arrangement because it appears that Tesla is free to use any improvements made to its technology by another party."
And Tesla isn't above suing over patents held by it's subsidiaries or companies they bought out.
This is one of those "makes for great PR, but the underlying truth is shady". -
Because it's entire financial health is based off of government contracts?
Because the only reason Tesla stock didn't crater in 2012 is because it was in the Schwab 1000 and several Vangaurd index funds. Vanguard was and is so over exposed to TSLA any major sell off almost requires them to buy in to avoid destabilizing themself.
Because SpaceX has routinely lied about/covered up environmental contamination? TA pays more in EPA fines/remediation for committing a fraction of the violations SpaceX does.
As a nerd, I love the basic premise of SpaceX. As an investor, the math doesn't math. And when Musk opens his mouth I hear:

Also believe you can own as many shares as you want, but only Elon and Elon alone is the decisionmaker. There is no board of directors. Furthermore his shares are different to the punters somehow.

Yah, I just went by an interview and what Musk said. I didn’t bother digging deeper into it.

It's Class A shares versus Class B. Class A has full voting and dividend rights, Class B has fewer.
Schneider National is a great example of this. A primarily family owned company was about to transition to the 4th generation. In addition they had minority owners like Wayne Lubner and Chris Lofgren who were looking at estate planning/divestiture. There is no way the family could afford to buy out the minority owners, and even if they could it wouldn't solve the problem of diluted ownership heading into the 4th generation. The solution was to go public with the family retaining 70%ish of the Class A shares which have strict rules about selling and about 40% of the Class B shares which they are free to do as they please with. The non-family shares were mainly converted to Class B, which allowed them to transition the wealth to their heirs without creating a power struggle that would doom the company. Schneider is a fantastic company and if I were ever presented with an opportunity to buy Class A shares I would, but I would never buy Class B shares. The dividend yield is too small and the Class A holders have no interest in getting the share price to rise, in fact it's in their interest to retard share price growth which allows them to pay executives in stock options and then immediately buy them back, saving a fortune on payroll taxes.
Ultimately, most of the publicly traded shares have no more value than Packers stock. Most of the voting rights are controlled by hedge funds and institutional investors, which make the votes of retail investors negligible.
