How long're you leavin' those markers off for? I mean, If the guy behind you's gonna hit you because he lost sight of you in the 1 or two seconds that your markers were off...He's gonna hit you regardless.

I'd be willing to bet that NEVER, EVER has anyone ever been rear ended because they flashed their markers off for a second to thank someone for the lights!

Cutting the markers off shouldn't cut the tail lights off anyway. I've seen a few trailers that did but they're not supposed to.

Me personally, I only leave'm off for a few seconds.

My comment was more in reference to something I thought I read within this thread or another one similar to it that said something on the lines of some law being fractured by turning off all your marker lights but I spose I was mistaken.

    I wasn't saying it like,

*passer cuts off marker lights for a few seconds* "Oh!!! Where'd he go???? He was just there a second ago!!!

*passer lets go of the switch* "There he his!!! I knew he was there somewhere!!!

Yeah, Ive noticed that too but I think its a combination of the truck and the trailer. The marker int. switch on this Cascadia turns of everything but the headlights as with the Century we drove.

That KW on the other hand was different. Some trailers it would only interrupt the clearance lights and on some of the newer ones, It would interrupt the clearance lights along with the outside tail lights. The middle tail lights stayed on.

I am FINALLY getting over the personal anger of truckers not flashing so much any more, and have adopted my own "take" on flashing! (grin). First and foremost, I flash for safety, no matter what! If a truck is getting on the freeway, especially in bad weather, I flash. If a motor home or car is getting on, AND is obviously paying attention, being safe etc I'll flash them to, you bet! I don't flash dumbas*es! If you crawl by me at 56 mph and then try to drop right in front of me at said speed, you will get the air horn!

I think a little common sense is in order these days folks, if you are out in the middle of AZ on I10, no body around, it's high noon, and a truck passes you, WHY does that truck need to be flashed? If you don't know how to drive, get off the road! I am actually talking about that driver that has to sit and wait to see if you are going to flash, and waits, and waits, blocking any other traffic that may come along, that is just freaking stupid arrogance! DRIVE PEOPLE! If someone doesn't flash you, so what? Get down the road, and get over it!

Bottom line, I flash when it makes sense, and may even flash at other times to, but I'm not flashing all trucks any more, and there are even a few companies I'll NEVER flash, ones that obviously have stupid drivers with attitudes!

Please don't get me wrong, I'm all for the old school trucking comradeship, but times they are a changin! And unfortunately, I'm human, and get angry to, BUT am trying to get over myself, and adjust, you can to! :)

I have been on the other end of truckers like you my friend, driving my light loads, 30ft flat bed and my pickup. Reguardless of my GVW or torque ratings i would appreciate that courtesy just as much as the next trucker, and i thank you for it. Happened just the other night entering a freeway at night in the snow...a werner truck even...kudos to that driver. I worked law enforcement before making this jump to trucking and can tell you that if any of my officers ticketed for "courtesy" flashes i would of torn em' up. Just keep rollin' and try to pass the info on to the younger generation of truckers like me.

Ill turn off/turn on my headlights(low beams) to let you know you can come over...never my high beams! Ill even grab the cb and tell ya "your clear to come over driver" If you "thank" me, great....if not....no biggie! But if you do, itll speak volumes to what kind of driver you are! A COURTEOUS ONE!!

Same goes if im in my 4wheeler pickup truck! And i got a cb in it too!
    Keep on truckin driver!

Driving here in Guam....man, these people will cut you off in a new york minute, and not think twice about it either, and then look at you like your the idiot when you blow the air horn!!! CRAZY!
