Good morning, folks. I was wondering if you guys can shed some light on this. So, I started driving yesterday and my truck sometimes wouldn't accelerate when I pressed on the pedal. Sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't. When it wouldn't, I would let off the throttle and then press down, and it would work again. Other times, especially in 8th gear, it would rev to only 1300 rpm and stay there. Again, I would let off, and it would re-engage. It would then sometimes blast off with the rpm hitting up to 1800. I suspect it's the throttle position sensor. But there are no codes being thrown. The truck is a 2012 10-speed manual VNL 670. What do you guys think?
2012 VNL 670 Throttle Position Sensor going bad?

Throttles are by wire these days.
gekko1323 Thanks this. -
Yep, and that’s why he’s asking about the throttle position sensor. Lol.
@gekko1323 does the throttle pedal have the roller under it or does it hang from above? In the older KW’s with the full length pedal on the floor I’ve had it where that roller would accumulate gunk on it and it would kind of get hung up when I’d press the pedal down. Cleaning the roller and the metal plate under it would help. But that’s useless info if your truck doesn’t have that style of pedal.Siinman, Diesel Dave, gekko1323 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I was just getting a crazy high/low idle that wouldn’t respond to my throttle “gas pedal” Turned out to be a VGT “turbo actuator” and manifold pressure sensor..$3,500 later and everything works as it should.
My first thought was the TPS going bad but it had nothing to do with it.Siinman, gekko1323, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this. -
It hangs from above. I'll make sure today. Are you referring to the pedals they had like in the old T-660 which came in from a groove on the floor? I do know that it is all one piece. The pedal and sensor are one.

When my Volvo TPS failed, it failed at a traffic light going uphill, lol. Had to call for a tow. There was no warning and nothing was acting up prior.
If I were to bet money on it I’d say it’s likely the turbo speed sensor. I’ve had to replace two on almost identical engines 21 and a 23 Cummins and neither gave the same symptoms.
A turbo speed sensor is relatively cheap and easy enough to replace. I would just replace it and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn’t then you have an extra part for your toolbox. -
Your Volvo doesn’t have the pedal assembly that he’s talking about.
-
You're right. My pedal originates from the top. I could never get used to the ones he is talking about. I drove an old T-660 for a spell and just didn't like the feel.
-
So, when your TSS failed, did the truck exhibit the same symptoms that mine is?Concorde Thanks this.
-
Similar symptoms not identical. Both TSS failures I dealt with weren’t even close to being the same.
I don’t know how Volvo’s are setup but my TPS shares a circuit with something in the emissions system.
When my VGT failed I also had a manifold pressure sensor failure. Actually just got my truck back from the mechanic last week. Those two failures would give me a random dead pedal and a crazy High/Low idle.
