Back to Trucking after a Few Years

This is an interesting one I found, bit of a gamble but sounds easy.

Hazmat and tanker!?! That's like two whole endorsements!

 

The first one, who knows I'd guess 1099, second one is 1099, and third is I believe W2.

There's jobs like this all day long all over the country right now. Start calling, someone will put you in a truck. Rates are up.

Right now you got the highways half full of non English speaking flip flops running 2 elds pulling 6000-9000 miles a week solo. I bet if you make 15 phone calls you get at least 5 guys with trucks sitting empty right now that don't care how long it's been since you've driven.

 

What about Abilene? I used to keep up with the Abilene thread that forum member Johnboy made and if I remember right they would take drivers without recent OTR experience and not make them go with a trainee as long as they could pass a road test? But I think Abilene got bought out by Knight-Swift but I don't know if it's one of those things where Abilene is still its own company and doing their own thing for the most part? So maybe check with Abilene (if they're even their own company anymore).

Also, what about 1099's, would you be willing to go work for one of them for a year if it meant they checked all your boxes but maybe you would also have to sacrifice other things that come with typical 1099's?

No not always, although leases do exist with 1099's. 1099's come with their own set of problems, while W2's have their own sets of problems as well (many of which you already stated you don't want to work for if they have those problems). Definitely do your research before jumping into a 1099. It was just a suggestion for you to get your year experience before moving onto greener pastures. Too bad Abilene got fully absorbed into Swift, I could've sworn I remember stories in Johnboy's thread about how they used to take guys with 5+ years off the road and let them go OTR as long as they could pass a drivers test. And they did dry van too which is what you're looking for.
