Anyone with experience with Jk Williams/Glaser Williams

I was there a few years ago. Great people great company too much regional work for me. I prefer longer hauls so I moved on.

Captain Safety (Dennis) and I didn't exactly click either. I'll spare you that rant. If you are an old school type (like me) who runs heavy and hard they definitely are not the company for you.

Overall, I would recommend them.

 

I worked at JK recently. I was one of their few local drivers. They decided the local rat race wasn’t cutting it and dissolved it and had everyone go on the road with 2 weeks minimum out. At this point in my life I’m not looking to be gone 2 weeks at a whack. But anyway, they are a good company to work for. All hood Peterbilts with 13 or 18 speeds. You will see Colorado and you will see Colorado a lot. Most trucks have automatic chains. It’s usually grinding balls out to the mines up in the mountains and then rock back to KC or Oklahoma. They have a lot of southeast freight so when it is your hometime that won’t be an issue. I’ve drug citrus pellets up from Florida to Kansas before and there’s a lot of glass that goes to College Park, GA. And marble out of Tate or Talking Rock coming back up. They do not expect you to run overweight and they absolutely will not let you fudge their ELD. Their ELD is easy to get along with, and you can use PC on a case by case basis. Pay is good you’ll get 25% of the load and you’re always sent the load info in an email. My last year there I did 103k and I really didn’t try that hard. No scrap metal, and pretty easy freight. You’ll go to some neat places I backed right onto a few major league ball fields with warning track dirt out of CO. Benefits aren’t anything to brag about but they aren’t horrible. Like I said they run nice equipment and keep it that way so if you ever have any issues they’re all about getting it fixed. Anything else you need to know just ask I’ll try to answer what I can, but they’re good people for sure.

 

Pay is hard to nail down as rates and customers change. You won't get rich pulling a dump trailer. A decent living can be made but you have to stay busy. I don't know what rates are like where you live they never ran me south.

When I was there they wanted you out two weeks as was mentioned. They also wanted you to reset on the road which I hated. PC was taken away it wasn't even an option then. Sounds like some changes have been made which is good. I remember Dennis telling me "you go on duty not driving when you get to the customer and you're on duty until you leave". Im like "no" that's a total waste of time. Again, they aren't a bad company they just aren't for someone like me.

You may have better options around Atlanta if you want to be home somewhat regular.

Trucks were 72mph then, 18 speed, I had a beautiful 567 Peterbilt. It was some kind of numbered limited edition. That thing was sweet !

 

Yes you will most definitely be sent to Colorado. That’s their bread and butter is running grinding balls to the mines. And that’s why they have automatic chains on their trucks, you won’t be sitting waiting for them to lift the chain law, if the road is open you’re going. The Climax mine is like 12,000 something feet so it’s no joke to get to. Leadville CO is the highest incorporated town in the US and when leaving Climax you drop DOWN into it. No automatics everything is manual. Vacation I forget the exact breakdown but it’s pretty decent and as long as you give them a respectable notice they’ll work with you. They have 401(k) but I don’t really remember the contribution match.

Grinding balls out of KC you’ll see your fair share of, and ABC Coke in Birmingham AL.

 

If you’re in ATL, want to pull an end dump and be more regionalized with weekend home time, good pay, and nice equipment then you should look in to CDJ Bulk Express. My downside to them would be that they haul a ton of scrap, so you need to be comfortable walking loads to bow up your trailer, and take them out on the other end.
