From the article:
"Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on Monday (August 31) in Detroit that over a hundred trucking schools are being shut down due to fraud concerns. This decision comes amid a broader crackdown by the Department of Transportation (DOT) on unqualified truck drivers, particularly those who do not speak English. According to Duffy, more than 2,000 truck drivers who lack English proficiency were able to obtain licenses, raising significant safety concerns."
Duffy intentionally conflates 'fraud,' English language proficiency, and numbers of trucking schools. At the start of the year he claimed he shut down 10,550 schools, yet as little as a month ago his website only listed 6,000. Today it lists, 9,812.
You check news articles today only you see anywhere from 110 to 270 schools. One true mark of a BS is when you can't keep the story straight.
So check out the registry of removed schools: Training Provider Registry
One trend you see is the schools the are not fraudulent in they are 'Mills' like Duffy claimed. They are not handing out CDL certificates as would be described as diploma mills. Most all are companies and organizations self-certifying themselves as CDL schools to get employees or members CDLs.
For example as of today I count:
55 churches
485 counties
483 school districts
65 fire departments
463 "City"
103 Transit departments
37 Christian Schools
37 Baptist churches
5 Catholic Schools
94 water departments
218 towns
485 counties
111 Works departments
7 police departments
6 sheriffs
49 villages
107 U-Hauls
3 PUD
20 road departments.....
You really could go on for days with ridiculous places that registered themselves with being a CDL school, but you will have to look extremely hard just to find one that could be described as 'CDL' mill.gentleroger and Flat Earth Trucker Thank this. -
That's good news
Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
With the current climate I can't help but imagine a team scoring a point against the buzzer and celebrating, only to zoom out and see they lost by 100 points or something.
Toomanybikes and GoneButNotForgotten Thank this. -
I'll say the same thing I did the last time they made this press release - talk to me when HabHab gets shut down.

Sometimes I feel guilty; raining on someone's parade.
It is good news that something is being done. But what is being done is just a smoke screen covering up what needs to be done. Someone in power needs to cancel the non-domiciled rule, remove all the non-english speaking truck drivers, and remove authority of all the shyster players in the trucking world.
The rules are there to do just that, just not the political power to do so.
Instead of using the SMS database to remove all the chameleon carries like it was designed to in 2010. We are strapped with a 'new' Motus system that sucks and does not do what the SMS system was put in to do.
Instead of going after companies that hire unqualified drivers and revoking their authority, We are going after schools that are not even schools.
Instead of pulling drivers that cannot speak English off the road, we give them a ticket and tell them they are bad boys.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.
