Would you stay where you’re at and keep building CDL experience or try to get your foot in the door at Old Dominion?

I’m a newer CDL driver and currently doing beverage delivery. I’m making $28/hr right now and go to $30/hr after 6 months. Usually work less than 60 hours a week, good benefits and PTO, and it’s pretty stable. The job is definitely physical but I’m getting driving experience.

I have a friend who is a dock supervisor at Old Dominion, so I have an opportunity to get in there on the dock and hopefully work my way into a driving position.

My biggest question is whether I should just stay where I’m at for a while and keep building my CDL experience, then look for a better driving job later, or take the opportunity to get into ODFL now even though I’d be starting on the dock.

For anyone who’s worked at Old Dominion, how realistic is it to go from dock to driver? And would you personally take that route, or keep building driving experience where I’m at?

Just trying to figure out which would be the better move long term.
