The article I linked below gives a good overview for the layperson to understand of how things work in the US.
One snippet that made me laugh..
“The "net petroleum exporter" label that politicians cite includes natural gas liquids and refined products, not just crude oil — which is like calling a country that exports wine and imports grain a "net agricultural exporter."
Back to being serious, lol.
Easy read for anyone who wants to learn a little.

Our oil becomes their oil for a fee. They do what’s best for them with the oil we sold them
Thinking aloud..
Don’t lease federal lands to oil companies just to sit on and pay a fee.. Sitting on it will trigger a royalty fee after x amount of time.
We the people require the government to either use proceeds from royalties (currently estimated at 14 billion a year) to purchase oil for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
Once at capacity they can..do whatever. Maybe subsidize fuel costs for socialist programs like fire department, police departments and schools.. The local crap we all depend on.
Or require oil companies to send a percentage (directly or indirectly) of “Our” oil to the Petroleum Reserve…once filled to capacity they can requirement Wil be waved.
Maybe we the people shouldn’t give away our resources without proper reparations ?Magoo1968 Thanks this. -
I think you made the best investment choice. Thanks for being honest about it. I didn't find much benefit in being a solo o/o. It slowed my net worth advancement significantly.Rideandrepair and Old_n_gray Thank this.

Kind of crazy at one point a guy couldve bought a gov treasury bond that paid 15percent or more interest.. lol if rates were that high today id imagine we'd be a full on 3rd world country with hyper inflation.. probably cost like $2,000 for a big mac. High fuel prices would be the least of our problemsCarpenter Scotty, Gatordude, Deere hunter and 4 others Thank this.

There were certain benefits to the high rates. Ordinary savers had a simple strategy that was safe and would have a long term payoff. Governments actually cared about their debt. Companies were more mindful about debt financing. In my opinion healthy economies should have a prime interest rate between 6 and 10 percent.

He had a lot of cash and made great investments. What was your point? It had nothing to do with luxuries.

Have you ever read the book: The Big Store: Inside the Crisis and Revolution at Sears?
It is a very interesting history on how it was run and changed through the years. I really enjoyed it.
I used to beat the #### out of our tv's. ha ha Especially the old Consoles. Had to replace a few bulbs in them as well, I loved taking stuff apart and trying to fix it when I was younger. And we also had the antenna on the side of the house, I never had cable until after I was an adult and moved out on my own. Dad refused to pay for that as well and no way he was gonna get a dish when those came out. I can remember our grand parents on Mom side had one and he just laughed at them for spending that kind of money for stupid TV.Concorde, Gatordude, BoostedTeg and 1 other person Thank this. -
Still have an antenna in my attic in my garage, hooked it up to the inhouse wiring for cable which I will never have, now considering I am on the road way more I have YouTube tv so when I am on the road like right now I can sit in my truck and watch football. Otherwise I would have no streaming services, it's the way I like it, if it's not on free TV I would rather not watch it.
