George, I have been in your shoes. I have had two heart attacks. They DO NOT prevent you from driving. As long as the meds control your blood pressure you are fine as far as BP goes. The tricky part is the DOT physical. When your card expires be prepared. You must have a cardiologist submit the flow results of a stress test before the DOT card can be issued. Also you will only get a 1 year card from here out. If SNI doesn't clear you to drive that is thier call. Back when I started they accepted me with my Heart issues and all but I chose a differnt path. Many other companies will hire you. Just keep your cardiologist info on hand. Like you I have a stent, I also hated the cost of Plavix. I ended up buying my Plavix from Canada in 3 months supply. After a year my doctor allowed me to switch to aspirin instead of Plavix. The problem you face with SSI is many other companies will still hire you. Normally you need advanced Heart Failure to recieve SSI. After my heart attacks I thought life was over, It is normal to be scared. It took me over a year to finally stop worrying. Hang in there, ask you doctor for a anti deppressant it helped me alot. Good luck and call me if you just wanna chat. Eric

I don't think Schneider will bar you from driving again. Like I said when I was in Edwardsville there was a driving we were talking to who had just had a heart attack and he was doing office work waiting to be cleared. I think he said he was out of driving for 2 months. We are pulling for you. Too bad Schneider doesn't have an employee help fund like Roehl started. I know we contributed to that and we would do the same for Schneider.

Hi Chance,
My girlfriend and I just completed one week of training at the Dallas OC. They call it Schneiderizing, It was very intense with a real focus on safety. As far as CDL training goes Schneider requires your CDL to be in place before you are cleared for this class.
You must also have your medical card and drug screen completed. Hope this helps -

Ok I talked to the head of recruiting about the 6 month waiting time. He told me that the only time the waiting period is waved is under special circumstances. Ok according to him I don't qualify under that but he said that if I was willing to come to Edwardsville on my dime (I travel there to get hubby anyway) he would ok me taking the pre screen test. I am to let him know when I am ready. When (notice I said when and not if) I pass then I can continue on with orientation and at that point Schneider will pay for my motel room. I am going to call him tomorrow and ask if I can come on June 6th. My heart rate has been good and I have been working out and practicing the testing. (When I brought hubby back to truck I had him hook up to his empty and I climbed the catwalk and hooked up the air lines and raised the landing pads. I also climbed up on the ICC bar and under the trailer. My heart rate stayed at 112). So I'm ready and all I have to do now is not to mess up my road test.

well according to SNI health, because hospital and cardiologist originally list my illness as a stroke then changed it to heart attack (even tho tests indicate it was not a stroke) I will have to wait at least a year to drive again ...... I can appeal showing it was a wrong initial diagnosis and possibly if a win my appeal changing diagnosis to a heart attack then my wait is only 2 months ..... appeal is taking aprox 4 months .....
