A blanket statement is assuming that is the norm. If it were the norm, then why do the vast majority run newer equipment? I remember when independents bought trucks every 3-5 yrs just like the big companies. What happened?
OK O/O's, are you ready for what's next? Thrive or survive?

He simply figured the cost of turnovers in local fuel hauling was higher than the initial cost savings on equipment purchase. Fuel mileage wasn't a factor running around town and those truck specs have an easier resale.

Was mostly poking fun. I owned 2 older trucks that I rebuilt, then bought a 2 year old truck, then ordered a new one. If I buy another truck in the future it will be new.
As far as what happened, who knows? You’ll always have the anti-emission and anti-ELD guys that will keep dumping money into their old truck. You probably have a fair amount of guys who use up their depreciation before their truck is paid for then they’re still making payments and end up with a tax bill on top of that. Or they don’t have much equity in their current truck and can’t get out of it.fromAtoZ and Deere hunter Thank this. -
We don’t run around town. The only daycab we have is the spare truck. My truck was new middle of last May and has 143k on it today. I’ll stick to my statement that bare bones aero isn’t a one size fits all solution.D.Tibbitt, fromAtoZ and Deere hunter Thank this.

you’re gonna walk in the front door and pay the sales guy and bank, or the back door and pay the parts and service counters. But pay you will lol.fromAtoZ Thanks this.

if you end up being Walmart greeter at 75, so what? Long as you’re having fun before you move onto the next realm, it doesn’t really matter. If you think it still does, the matrix still has you in its clutches.

I am one of those guys

The stress free life it gives me is worth more, than the fuel savings from owning a newer truck can provide. Even that is questionable. I get 6.5-8 depending on the speed and not all new trucks are doing better than that driving with the same speed and on the same terrain.
When you have drivers, yes, going with new equipment has sense, but if you are an o/o only wanting to work 3-5 days per week, a fully rebuilt pre egr truck is a better option.Cdemars316, BoostedTeg and Long FLD Thank this.
