I appreciate all the information guys. You see, I have been in the I.T. field for 13 years (bought my first computer in 1984. A Ti 99/4a). But stress and burnout is having me look for different options right now. My dad was a truck driver for over 30 years and made some decent money. (My father-in-law too) I did spend 6 years in the Army back in the 80's, but there are not too many job's for Rangers in the civilian world hehe.
Maybe I will go to school for diesel mechanic or something mechanical. I do love to work on engines.

The WIA money is still available. Here in Mn it's disbursed through the Minnesota Works offices (employment office). I had a home building/remodeling business that went belly up about 8 months ago so as far as income goes I should qualify. I"m going to drop the app. papers off tomorrow. Anybody here gone through the Dakota county tech school program here in MN?

In NC and SC, you apply for WIA funding at your unemployment office. Not sure about Ohio, but I would start there.

I took as computer programing class in the summer of 1984 though. I learned how to do some very basic things using basic, and how to use DOS up to a point. Was fun though. Something different for a kid getting ready to go into 9th grade back then. -
how do i apply for a wia grant?

Hello and Welcome to the Site
To apply for the WIA program, go to your local Employment Security Commission (ESC), Career Source, One Stop or Workforce Center... Keep us posted as to your progress. Best of Luck!

I applied for one of these grants and all they do is give you a big run around, 3 different visits, 1st visit you have to take a written test with math, spelling that was hard as hell and i failed it, and when you do fail it you have to go through a 3 week class which this place is an hr drive for me, second visit you have to go through some kind of workshop class for a day then the 3rd visit you have to go through intake to see if you even qualify for the grant. (sounds like a bunch of bull to me).
