Hi,
I was in the IT industry for a lot of years until my job got sent over to India. After nearly two years being unemployed, I went to trucking school and got my Class A CDL. I'm considering a couple of prehires (USA Truck, Swift and US Xpress), and would be grateful for any words of wisdom.
Thanks.

Welcome MrLucky.
IMHO all training companies are pretty much created equal. Research the forums and find the one that best fits your needs.
One note of caution regarding USX... they use autoshift transmissions and, some people have difficulty finding another job after USX (due to no experience with manual trans) if they went to USX stright from school.
Just my $0.02
Enjoy your time here.

Welcome Mr. Lucky,
I am KH, a greeter. It is my honor to welcome you here to one of the best trucker networking sites a truck driver has in his/her tool belt.
Now I have been to USX orientation (if you want to know more just ask in a reply). In addition, I agree with Jimbo regarding USX as a lot of people either leave orientation on bad terms or have problems as they have the most extensive back ground check I have seen. Now I am not trying to say do not go ith them but be careful. If you get in and make it through the training period and teaming period, they can be a good company especially if you get dedicated.
I would go with someone who has a manual transmission for your first company. I have driven both and find a manual better. Yes its like doing workout everyday with the clutch but you learn a lot more. If you give us your location, we can help find companies that operate manual trannies.
Enjoy your stay and remember help is only a click away on this good networking site. Once again, welcome aboard.
