Don't forget this is just an average to let new driver's know what their actual miles/wk can be at a mega company...that way, if any recruiter tells them 3000 miles/wk they can know they won't be getting much more than 2000 miles/wk with a mega.

The problem with going home is...one has to have a home to go to
. I so no need to pay rent or mortgage.
-
I had a home daily job a few years ago that was 3000+ miles/wk 6 days a week (Abq to El Paso Ross Dress for Less), but that was paid by the day and not by the mile. And I had to pay rent.
-
I just looked at Knight/Swift SEC report the other day.
For 2025 they averaged 83,650 miles per truck in the truckload division. Divided by 52 weeks a year you get 1,600 miles per truck a week.
That is not counting intermodal. Swift has something like 10% teams at any one time. So real driver average is slightly less then 1,600 miles a week. -
For the local Sams Club store deliveries I've been doing for the last month I've been getting 3000 miles/wk...way more than OTR. But that doesn't include the truck being in the shop for 5 days.
-
Freightwaves had an article early this year that the average length of haul is just barely 500 miles now, probably under it by this point. -
But it is including dedicated accounts like Millwood in Green Bay. Most of those loads are less than 50 miles round trip and they've got two yard trucks that fully registered. I think that if we just look at OTR the average miles would be a little over 2,000 a week.
-
Ok.....so Swift's runs aren't normally as long as those over at say, Holland Enterprises.
Ditto for Schneider.
Ok. We get it.
Wah, wah, wah....
Still -- a new driver has to start out SOMEWHERE.
Suck it up, Buttercup -- & pay your new-driver dues (I know I sure did).
-
I would have to look again for the specific number, but Knight-Swift list the average length of haul @ 360 miles for OTR division.
-
Yeah, but again that average length of hauls is going to be impacted by those extreme short accounts.
Even so, assuming 1 load a day and an average 5.5 day work week, it's still 2,000 miles a week. I also don't know if they include deadhead in their average length of haul. Dead head was 10%, so add that and assuming 1.1 loads per day and the weekly average is about 2,400.navypoppop Thanks this.
