What would you like to see in truck stops or what would be your ideal truck stop?

I was kicking the idea around of builing a truck stop.
Here is what i would think would set me aside from the rest of the "chain"style truck stops.

Full service fuel islands, (check fluids, air pressure, wash windows) every lane would have a person for this. (8 fuel lanes or more)

Plenty of trash cans though out area's
    Wash bay/tunnel

    Weight room/ Sona/ hot tub

Full scale maintance facility (fluid, tire, lights,)

Truck stop would have home style cooking (no burger king/wendy's)

20 washers/20 dryers or more if the demand is needed (soap supplies free of charge if you need it)

20 showers w/ a person to clean each on after each use. (free everyone desirves a shower)

a small motel if you didn't want to stay in the truck

a good lounge to relax in.

    2 scales

How would you stop trucks from idealing for heat and A/C? There has to be something out on the market, and if so does it work GOOD?!!

PLenty of parking for over 200 trucks

I would strive to keep it the cleanest truck stop you would stay at, when i drove over the road that was my biggest complaint was the gross nasty truck stops....

PLenty of staff to keep it all clean

All drivers will have to register (valid CDL) and will be assined a spot to park in (this sounds good but may be to hard to do)
Anyone caught littering/pissing in parking lot will be removed and asked not to come back.

Low light parking lot (not bright)

OH and all the stuff sold including fuel/gas would come from the USA nothing from over sea's

Give me good feed back or if you think my idea is to "lame"

    Cochise Thanks this.

I'd like to see a ban on filthy scumbags.....

Truck stops should be there for professionals only...The scumbags can reset or get their "10" at the terminals....

Fuel is expensive enough already...I don't need to pay for all of those attendants standing around with their thumbs up their butts waiting for a truck to pull up. The overhead would kill you paying their wages, and you'd have to recover your costs with increased prices...which people like me just won't pay.

Can't go wrong there, as long as the wash gets the truck clean and is comparable to other truck washes. Unfortunately, even if there was a trash can located next to the drivers door area of every parking space in the truck stop, as well as 4 at every fuel pump, there would still be nasty-#$$ truck drivers who would throw their crap on the ground.:biggrin_25510:

driver fitness is becoming more and more important...however, I wouldn't want to follow a lot of other drivers into any hot tub or swimming pool without it first being drained and cleaned. There are some nasty-#$$ truck drivers out here.

...kinda like the TA? Just don't charge TA prices! Got a tire repaired at one and it was a full $20 more than ANY tire shop I have EVER had a tire repaired at. I let 'em know I wasn't happy, and it was the last dime any TA will ever get from me.

good food is hard to find at truck stops these days....definitely would be a good thing.

I don't do the whole OTR thing anymore...but when I used to be out 2-3 weeks at a time, I'd have to do laundry somewhere sometime...and it always sucked waiting for the machines.

Going to run into the same overhead/labor cost issues as with your full service fuel pump idea. SOMEONE has to pay for those people to sit around with their thumbs up their butts waiting for the shower they are responsible for cleaning to need cleaning.

Trucks are for working. When it comes time to stop, I want to be comfortable...and if I'm not home, motels are good for that. Your problem here would be a lack of use unless you contract a certain number of rooms to LTL companies that would use the rooms on a regular basis.

definitely a good thing...preferably near your shop so that drivers getting their trucks worked on have somewhere to hang out.

Again, cost will be an issue unless you are in an area where your scales get A LOT of use. You'd be better off having one scale, and a half dozen dedicated parking spaces for people who have just weighed to park while they get their tickets and then slide tandems if necessary.

Build a dome over the entire truck stop...that way, you would have complete control over the ambient temperature, and could shade the hot summer sun (permadusk....light enough to see, but dark enough to sleep 24/7) and could control if/when it rained, too.:biggrin_2559:

property taxes will kill you on overhead if you are anywhere with high land values

    Again, DEFINITELY a good thing!

Unfortunately, with a lot of the disgusting pigs we share the road with, the overhead would kill you to keep that large of a staff on the payroll.

Sounds like a miserable idea to me. I pass out my personal info on a need-to-know basis. You are a truck stop, and have no need to know anything about me. I wouldn't "register", and don't want to be told where to park. I will find a space that suits me, and as long as it is a designated parking space, you do not need to know who I am or where I am parked.

I'd prefer ya shoot 'em on sight.:biggrin_25525:

An inspection booth and public humiliation for any fat, smelly B.O. infested sweat-pants wearing slobs who never wash their hands or shower. And then they go touch everything in the buffet and on the shelves in the store. If you don't pass inspection you are banned from every department except the showers. Then a re-inspection. If you still don't pass you are banned from the property.

Couple things, although I'm not OTR, just local...

Eliminate the 'touristy' junk crap from the truck stop...sell only things relevant to a trucker/truck.

Have an excellent 24/7 service center that can do most anything with a truck.

    Pay at the pump option.

    Good food.

Lastly, the option to donkey punch an ignorant employee.

EXACTLY like that Ramblin' Redneck, except have different categories like "hasn't showered in 9 days" or "has rare exotic fungus growing under fingernails" or "this guy just peed/crapped all over a toilet seat and left"
