Hi I am KH, a greeter. It is my honor to welcome you to the greatest trucking networking sites a trucker has his/her tool belt.

I went through USX orientation in Jan of this year. In my opinion, you can do better than them as a lot of people go through their two orientations per week (last I heard it was 100+ people). About half do not make it.

If you do choose them, ask to arrive on a Sunday as you will get an extra $50 for doing a driving test and filling out paperwork. The hotel, a budget inn is lets just say good for what it does; house USX employees going through orientation as USX is their biggest customer. Your own room will cost $15 per night. You will do your drug test, physcial, bp test and begin the long que of paperwork on Monday. This is the day you will lose about of fourth of your orientation attendance.

Tuesday is more filling out paperwork and watching videos. Wednesday is more filling out paperwork and getting drug tests back. Some people will be hired. Now on Wednesday, a new class will be heading to orientation; get up early so you are not late. Words of advise: Do not hide anything on your application. It will bite you in the rear as USX will find out. If you went to school, get a copy of your transcripts. Get copies of everything. USX has and will be strict on who they hire and back ground check is one of the best in the industry.

Food: Mexican restaurant about a block to your right. There is a wendys in the parking lot. A wal-mart is 2 miles away as well as a Chinese buffet. Note: USX van will take you if it is available. Hotel van will not so keep USX number handy. Finally, stock up on some dry snacks for the worst. One piece of advice; Do not go to the hotel bar. USX will find out.

Once again welcome aboard and remember help is only a click away on here.

    KH

I want to point something out in kinghunter's post...."this is the day you will lose a fourth of your orientation attendance". See anything wrong with that? And i'm not talking about the typo here...

I mean, it's a sham. They tell all these people oh yeah, everythings great, you definitely have a job...then they get there, "find out" something that was never hidden, that the driver was up front about....and they get sent home for it. And these are people who may have quit another job, etc to come here.

A lot of companies do it. Infact, i work for werner, and i remember a couple weeks after i had gotten out of training, i was in my own truck, and got a qualcomm message from RECRUITING...asking me about somethign on my app....that should NEVER happen. Werner's a little different than others...it seemed like they didnt give a #### about your previous employment, and that they were only investigating it to comply with DOT regulations...very odd...

But yeah, i went to JB hunt orientation, there was a little incident i had in my first couple weeks on the road.. Recruiter said, itd be fine, you have a job here, etc....i get there, do the physical, THEN they tell me...

    It's such a dirty practice.

Anyway, if you do go....don't count your chickens until they hatch. I do have a friend who works for USX and is making good money (team driver), has been there for over a year, and does have her complaints, the only serious one i recall is that she gets screwed over on miles sometimes because she has hazmat...so they take them off good loads to give them hazmat loads because no one else in the area has hazmat.. ;) But, point is, just because they tell you you're in on the phone, doesnt mean anything. You're not even in the door at these big companies until you're in the truck and hundreds of miles from the terminal...and like i said, i had been in a truc for a month and a half before i got a qualcomm message from recruiting asking for info...!!

I started out with USX back in '96... compared to Swift, J.B. Hunt, Schneider, et al, I'd say they weren't bad for a driver just beginning his or her career. I do recall being p*ssed off when I was taken off a good load to cover a load that wasn't being handled correctly by some chump. That's a p*sser, being "punished" because some other hand can't cut the mustard... if you're on top of things and handling your business, you shouldn't have to lose good mileage just because some chump can't do a job of work. Other than that, I was treated okay, considering the size of the company. I went into Canada while working for USX---you may wanna ask about that if you don't have a valid passport.

I thanked "phroziac" for his observation on companies that bring drivers hundreds or thousands of miles from their homes, only to tell those same drivers that they can't be hired for whatever reason... this is bull$h!t which I've dealt with before. In my case, I actually took a piss test here in Dago, drove an abandoned truck from Barstow, CA, to Groveland, FL, via the Keystone State, then was told (after orientation) that I couldn't be hired... the company had just lost a major account, so they were looking for any excuse to send drivers home, but I still found it irritating. Had to shell out $500 for the flight home, as I wasn't going to miss the Super Bowl by riding the "Grey Dog" for three days...
