Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Very cool. I figured the job was much more than just driving. How many shows a week did you do?
-
Typically we'd travel to one location and stay there for several days (5-10) and do one show per day. It takes an entire day to prep for one show.
The horses never stay in the trailers for longer than 8 hours when in transit. If a trip from point A to B was longer than that, there'd be an arrangement made for a stop over point at a private farm.
Also, of the three trailers you saw only two had horses in them. The lead truck has 4 horses and the portable stalls used at some show locations. The second truck hauls 6 horses and the donkey (if they still travel with one). The third truck pulls the harness trailer and the wagon.
They also have a Dodge 1-ton with a goose neck that hauls two horses and more portable stalls. Then there's the 15 passenger van that is used to transport the crew from the hotel to the stalls where the horses are kept during a show. The Challenger, Big Don and wsyrob Thank this. -
I was expecting a Dalmatian to look out one of the truck windows at me. That would be a nice touch. They should issue each driver one.
-
The Dalmatian on our hitch was pretty much the personal pet of our supervisor and always road in the van on travel day.
Ironic when you consider that our supervisor always drove the lead truck. -
Not taking this off the horse-hauling topic but I think it would be cool to run production vehicles for live sports, movies, events, etc:

Me too. This was what I had in mind when I started this thread. A discussion about lots of different nitch jobs.
Every time I go to a Football game that's in prime time I wonder who drives those trucks parked outside the stadium. I wonder what a weeks schedule would be like for one of those guys. -
I would love to drive Nascar haulers. I realize that they run a totally crazy schedule but for me that would be my "perfect nitch".
-
My perfect niche would be hauling boats to the various boat shows or doing various promotions for a company going city to city to show off whatever product they have. From what Crow has said, these jobs pay good and have demand on the driver.

There was a guy that posted on another board. He worked for a custom motorcycle shop and pulled a rig with a bunch of bikes in it around to bike shows. The trailer had a big awning on it that he would set up the bikes under. He used to post pictures of hot chicks sitting on the bikes and was allowed to ride them if he wanted.
