You are under the misconception that they "gave" you a truck. Whether you are a company driver or a lease driver, THEY "gave" you a $160,000.00 truck to drive. Those company drivers are driving the same truck you are leasing, the only difference here is you are making their truck payments for them, you take all the liability of the insurances on yourself. They don't have to pay unemployment insurance, or SS taxes, or worker's comp, it's a win win for them. They like you as long as you do your job and don't question anything.
What is your liability should they decide you did something they didn't like and kick you to the curb before your lease is up? And just remember that under that contract you are still an "at will" employee, which means they can terminate your contract for ANY reason at all.
My hubby was very happy as an o/o......until they kicked him to the curb.

Excellent post....
They must be pretty fancy Volvo's for 160k !!
Wonder what they have depreciated to come trade in time ??TruckrsWife Thanks this. -
160k...must have been looking at the total of his payments for the lease and the buy out. Makes you wonder just exactly how much profit Swift makes off every truck they lease....I'm guessing 35-45k...profit off the backs of their "partners" according to the recent recruiting advertising they are doing!
Forgive TW, she used to be very supportive of Swift before my little "incident" at the Phoenix terminal! Now she is...obviously very bitter! -
sounds like it..
You figure with a fleet discount they get an already cheap truck even cheaper, so.........I guess they can afford to cut rates and haul freight for nothing because the profit would appear to be in leasing out trucks....yes ?? Its actually a pretty good plan as long as people keep leasing..
TW is fine she sounds like she has a pretty good handle on the situation..otherhalftw Thanks this. -
Yes she is....best thing in my life for sure!
And I can't get away with diddly anymore!
-
LOL.....make sure you take good care of her, good ones are hard to find anymore !!otherhalftw Thanks this.
-
I tell you what....you are all right and I have my peace...good luck to all of you....
-
I'm a newer driver going back to Swift in a few weeks, and if I may ask, what happened? Weren't you a long time with Swift and a mentor as well?
-
Yes I was for 12 years...until the case is either settled or returns from the Administrative Law Judge and the Administrative Review Board, I can't discuss the details...however, once those two things happen (about 90 days we are told) the entire fiasco will be discussed here on this forum, and with Homeland Security, along with Customs and Border Patrol and the FMCSA...in great detail!
Most know me here not to be shy of stirring the proverbial ****!

And, now that I think about it...do I know you? PM me through a mod if your post count is too low.
