i looked up bumper to bumper but i cant find it. it shows things like for the car or automobile but not the book. where did u get the book railsplitter?

Bryan, there are plenty of companies in your area. Look for local moving van companies that will allow you to drive a straight truck, dump truck companies, apply at ryder as fuel station attendant, the list is endless. With you being young, you'll get used to CSA 2010, and get used to the new changes this industry is going through.
KHkickin chicken Thanks this. -
Hey, Bryan, just made it back to this forum... I bought that book at a store which specialized in technical manuals. Darned if I can remember the name of the store, it was so long ago... my only advice is to try bookstores that specialize in technical manuals. Perhaps the book is no longer in print, so to speak, but there should be already-published copies available somewhere... sitting unread in a warehouse, no doubt. If I still had my copy, I'd simply post it your way. Keep trying, though... I can't believe a book that useful is no longer available anywhere. Somebody somewhere has to have a copy for sale. Think of your search as your first trucking-related task...
One thing I do remember: I looked up that bookstore in our local Yellow Pages, selecting a listing that mentioned "technical and automotive manuals." I remember this because I had never before set foot inside that particular bookstore, nor have I set foot in it since the day I bought that book. It was a one-shot deal, but it really paid off. Gotta go make dinner now, but I'll glance at the local Yellow Pages for San Diego and see if any listings ring a bell, then get back to ya later. "Adios!"
P.S. Hey, Bud, I found that info for ya... check out the post below!!!Last edited: May 30, 2010

Okay, Bryan, here's the info you need:

This should see you well on your way, my friend. I noticed that Mike Byrne & Associates offer other books as well... a whole heap of 'em, by the look of things. I saw one on taking the CDL test which might come in handy. Anyway, the downside is that the price of "Bumper To Bumper" went up over the years, and it now costs around $59 ("Yikes!!!"). Still worth every penny, hand... if your parents balk at the price, save your money or knock out a few odd jobs to earn enough to pay for the book. If you love trucks, you'll find this book fascinating, and you'll have a big advantage over other trainees when you finally go to school. That's my spiel... I guess ya know I wouldn't do this for just anyone, but I liked the way you presented yourself and I compliment you upon your resolve to become a truck driver. I was nowhere near as focused when I was your age... if I had been, I would have gone straight into truck driving school at the first opportunity. "Adios!!! See ya on the road!!! They call me 'The Railsplitter' when they're not mad at me, which is why you'll hardly ever hear my handle, 10-4?"

Thanks Railslpitter. I look that site later tonight.

"It's all good, Hollywood!!!" Just mind your instructors, drive defensively at all times, and, whatever you do, NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE... I know that can be difficult, between today's partying youth and peer pressure, just DON'T DO IT. Sleep on a couch or a carpet if necessary, or even in the vehicle... whatever it takes to avoid that whole DUI scenario. I'm tellin' you this as a hand who was once arrested for misdemeanor DUI after slamming into a cop car... it was a blow for freedom (just kidding---long story which I shall not relate), but it didn't do my MVR any good, 10? Remember, driving is a PRIVILEGE, not a RIGHT, and a citizen must EARN that PRIVILEGE... and strive to maintain it as well. Getting a DUI (if you're "fortunate" enough not to kill anybody and wind up in jail for the rest of your life) will shoot down any hope you have of driving a big truck, at least for several years. Mark my words, my little friend... "THERE'S NO FUTURE IN DUI." Enough said, hope you're having a good time out there on Long Island... I once met a beautiful woman here on our beach in Coronado (always makes the "Top Ten Beaches In The U.S." list), and she hailed from St. James (?), NY, out on Long Island. She was ###### beautiful, and classy too, although I won't go so far as to say that all NY women are "classy." You'll figure all that out as you become an adult, hopefully with the guidance of your parents... I hail from a broken home, so I had to learn everything the hard way, 10? That's alright, I'm still here, I'm in ###### good shape for my age, and I'm thankful each day when I wake above ground...
P.S. We had an all-time record number of holiday visitors to the beaches of San Diego County this weekend: 856,200 people (an estimate, obviously, but made by professionals), according to S.D. County Lifeguards. I don't know what part of Long Island you call home, but I know that certain beaches there get crowded as well. Around here, locals (like me and my best friend Tommy whose family ran the first and oldest surf shop here for 35 years) stay right in our yards on every holiday weekend, holdin' down the fort while hordes of tourists stream past... -
Hopefully, that info didja some good... I've been off the site for a bit, standing in the corner with my dunce cap on, 10? Anyway, you seem to have received the info that counts, regarding that book with all the useful diagrams. "HASTA LUEGO!!!!!!!!!!"
