I ment my comments to be general to what was being asked .... as for 2 meters I have worked stations 1200 miles away ond on 6 meters 3,000 miles away and 300 miles on 440 mhz.

Long range DX bands ar 80-10 meters ( 3.5 - 29 mhz ) is good for DX almost all the time and 6 meters ( 50 mhz ) can and does produce many DX contacts but not all the time.

2 Meters again can produce long range contacts but is used for local contacts and a a very good band for nets and repeaters. 440 Mhz and above are local bands.

Just some of the 2 meter cards I have from openings.

What is the link to the test questions on the aarl website?

So, basically, if you memorize all the answers to these questions, then you can pass this ham test?

There is 3 classes of Amateur Radio Operator (Ham) License. Technician (c), General (b), & Extra (A). (Like Drivers license C, B, & A being the top). But with Ham you must Pass the Tech before you can get a General. And you must pass the Tech, & General before you can get an Extra class license. Each license class lets you operate more bands. Tech having the least. It's the easiest to pass it has 35 questions. The record youngest was 4 years old. Many are younger than 10. The General test is a little bit harder it also has 35 questions. This license will let you talk to anywhere in the world on 90% of the Ham bands. Now for the Extra license which is the hardest test and has 50 questions. With it you can talk on All of All the Ham bands. Which include the the real Big Boy DX Bands. All Ham license are good for 10 years. And at this time are free to renew. You can take 1, 2, or all 3 at the same time. For the same fee. Most charge $15 some charge less. One club in Maryland it's FREE!

Yes, Just like getting your CDL's

You must do the Test for Technician it's about 99 pages for it. But if you do it my way you will pass after about page 30. Before starting the test click wait for correct. This way it won't change until you get it right. As soon as the test is finished take that page again. About 3-4 times a day you should be able to get in the high 80's or more. Do the same for every page. After you get to page 30 you will know enough to pass. If want you can also study for General.
I want you to know that as of this July. There will be a NEW Technician test. So don't go after July 1 without knowing the NEW test!

I was more of refereeing to once i get my license of someone to advise me and help me with getting the best mobile set up possible. I don't mind saving my pennies until i can afford something long as it is the best and does EVERYTHING I will ever want. I saw someone post a picture in another thread that looked like they were running a very colorful meter of what someone was broadcasting. They said that they knew they were running a power amp just cause of the levels. Now I am very good with computers but this whole ham thing is greek to me and I am in a company truck so anything I do must be able to be removed without anyone ever knowing it was there. I was in a cb shop the other day to check my swr. The got 1.5 on ch. 1 and 1.7 on 40. Told me my antenna was a cheap pos. They hooked up a 5 ft Firestick and got 7:1 on ch1 and 8.5:1 on ch40. Then tried a sharpshooter about the same as the firestick, a browning did ok, and a 10k. The 10k got down to 1.7:1 and 1.9:1. But i was not going to pay 200 for it. They were talking that i needed a ground strap. And that they would have to drill into my door jam to do it. Scrap the paint off my mirror arm. And I was like whoa No Thanks. I am driving a company truck and all these antennas your trying to sell me are getting higher readings then my little astatic liner loaded 1k. that they claimed was just a cheap pos. Well my cheap pos is giving me levels I'm happy with. That don't require me to violate company policy. I fallow the rules even if it means the load will be late or dispatch will have a cow. The only rule I dont fallow is the speed limit. I do my 2-3mph over  I know I am such a rebel LOL
