"Driver shortage" is the politically correct way to say "lack of suckers", it doesn't really mean what the words are supposed to mean. If there was a real shortage, there would be REAL changes in pay and rates.

We need to weed out a few drivers to balance this industry out and hopefully bring us back to decent miles, pay, and fair treatment.

What we really need is a shortage of all these so called "industry experts" that sit in their cubicles and dream this stuff up!

I believe what they are saying.

I have posted in local papers for drivers. I have only 1 response in a month and that be from a new driver with no experiance. Last year at the same time we did the same and received at least 100 calls within a few days. I have a truck sitting here and no driver.

Drivers had enough being treated like scum by dispatchers shippers and receivers and I can't blame them if they don't want to drive. I hope the shortage continues and gets worse.
Not finding drivers is affecting me, however I understand.

It sounds to me that they're preping the way to bring more drivers up from the south american countries.I'm coming to trucking from construction...this is the same thing they did to construction about 10 years ago...talk about shortages, bring foreigners in under the banner "jobs that Americans won't do."

Lot of Americans and Canadians won't do long distance trucking. The way drivers are treated these days you can't blame them.

why do long distance with current hos regs? I drive for a regional northeast flatbed company and get all the miles i can legally drive when we have stuff to pull.

I can't see the point of anything other than regional trucking at this point because of the hos, not to mention the fact that most drivers don't want to be gone for weeks at a time from home, hell 4 or 5 days out is too long for me a lot of the time.....

I think this has always been the plan. to say there is driver shortage to keep flooding the industry with more than needed drivers as to keep pay low. for decades companies had school with classes every month to train & hire new recruits. why? after so many days when you figure out that all this work does not pay enough, they just tell you to hit the door & another sucker is ready to take your place. that's why the super high turn over in trucking. I am refering to the mega fleets. there never was any compromise on pay raise, condition of truck ,e.t.c. you do what we say, when we say or your fired & you still owe us for the schooling.

whatever , wherever, whenever you hear shortage of workers. usually folks take notice if they are not employed & inquire about. they will always claim driver shortage. always. i.m.o. just imagine if there was actually enough drivers, or too many drivers. they would never tell you, cause then, less potential drivers would not apply & the ones left would have more to bargain with.
