The HOS are the least of worries for truckers these days. Sad to say, but I doubt the gubment will listen to truckers.

I discussed this very issue with a broker....
When (not if) we all have mandatory EOBR's on our trucks...When the clock runs out..what are these shippers and receivers going to do?
There's going to be a lot trucks stuck at the dock because the clock ran out.....

    It's not bull.

Maybe you weren't around under the old rules. Let me enlighten you.
I ran under the old rules for years. I'd spend 6-10 hours of my day clamped to a building with a dock-lok and nobody gave a #### because they expected you to log that as sleeper time and run all night.
My typical day went like this: deliver at 6am, get my paperwork at 1130 am, then dead head to my next load 50 miles away, a 600 mile load that delivers at 6 am the next morning. Check in at the shipper at 1245, they give you a door at 1430. At 1730, you get your paperwork. It's freaking dinner time for most folks, you've been on the job since 6am and you haven't even started driving yet, and you have 600 miles to go. The next day, repeat the process. When the driver said enough, I can't do it, the dispatchers' response was always, "what do you mean you can't do it? You've been sitting all day." Almost all carriers were like this. When they changed the rules, it made it the carriers' problem. My company created a whole new department to deal with the problem and reduce dock times, because now it was costing THEM money.

After the rule change, I personally am far better rested, and I'm still driving 500-600 miles a day. As for statistics, I can back that up.
Truck accidents are DOWN 11.7% since the rule change, and most of the accidents happen within the first 8 hours on duty.

Now he's here with his 1 year of experience of "play your cards right or as he put it in another thread about "scheduling your trip or trip planning" and this 34 hour restart is stupid or some such crap as that!

For those of you who think the 34 reset is BAD you are brain dead! If you so hate it DON"T DO IT! Nothing in any rule that says you HAVE TO DO A 34 HOUR RESET!

It's one of the best things to come along since Uncle Sam got into the trucking business! THANK GOD that I can sit for 34 hours and get 70 whole freaking hours to work with after driving for 6 days like a mad man! Thank you also for making the company that gives me those arse busting runs give me some REAL time to take a daily break in like that 10 hours! Now I can get to eat 2 meals and shower and do laundry (if needed) and paperwork and then get some REAL SLEEP TIME in there!

Yes we did get hit on the split sleeper but I never screwed with that as I just prefered to sleep straight for 6-8 and then go to work as to try to NOT screw it up! Thats just me.

The hours we have do need a "Little" tweaking but leave the 34 intact because there are NO FREAKING ZEROS coming back to haunt your butt in 7 day after you took your time off at home. That was always the WORST thing about going home were those 2 zeros popping up in a week that did NOTHING to help a driver that took time off! More like a mouthy uncle showing up for sunday dinner!

You guys cried and moaned about the 10/8 rule and now that it got changed where you got an extra hour a day and more "off duty" time and a way to get another 70 without the headaches of zeros coming up (unless you drive for some idiot that can't get a freaking load for the truck untill you called them and told them you were empty or pushed a button telling them and a they sat you for 24 or more!) If I have to sit for more than a day or two I want a reward and resetting those hours my dear old Uncle Sam is actually giving me something worth sitting still for as I've read, a lot these Bottom Feeder POS companies sure aren't paying you any, if enough to sit! If you don't like the 34 don't take it! Just keep adding and subtracting your hours but don't a reset! It does NOT say you MUST reset, does it? Unless you really can't figure out how to reset and to tell the truth some of these drivers actually can't!"

Now as to "scheduling or planning your trip"! ROFLMFAO! If you are given loads with tight p/u and delivery times and a reload right as soon as you deliver then that statement is the same as the one in that other thread about your oh so wonderful fleece program, it's still a rookies statement! DUMB!

If you are brokering your OWN loads that is a true statement but when you drive someone elses equipment or pull their trailers or pay to drive some oh so wonderful companies truck (spelled lease/fleece purchase program) you will be "planning under their terms" not your own with time alloted to not run out of hours! But I know you will be on here defending that silly statement like you have in other threads where your 1 year of experience is better than any of us "old guys" or guys with a few more years than you do.

It's THEIR schedule not your's unless you refuse a load that will "work " into your schedule and most of us know what happens when we start to "refuse a load" for our own "selfish reasons" as the company will think of it and "reward" you with days off or p-poor runs!

I'll keep the 34 please and the 10 off and run like the owner of the truck wants it to run! Me just give me times and places and I'll make them but when I tell you that there are so many hours left to run know I won't run over hours as per mile pay ain't hourly pay! and if you can throw in a 34 in a town I like (NYC or Atlanta please!) as when I start to get back 8,4,9 hours then a reset would be nice! More money for me at least!

Good post Rollover. But some folks know it all. And when they do, that is fine. I don't see a lot of point in getting into a pissing contest with someone like that. (But then that is just me, I don't like to totally waste my time. . .):biggrin_2557:

They will learn in time. What is going to be funny is when they have several years in, and look back at just how "intelligent" and "smart" they were back when.:biggrin_2559:

I'm gonna flip a coin...heads, and the HOS change again. Tails, and TMC is going out of business.

Geez....I'll believe anything when I see it anymore.

Ok since your to afraid to tell your company your tired and want a day off for fear that you'll be fired or punished you want to keep the 34 restart? So what your saying is you want the government to be your backbone for you? Sorry but if your company will pull that crap and your relying on the government, you probably should look for another company!

Sorry but the 34 needs to go and we need the split sleeper birth back.

I just wish they'd allow for a little more flexibility. That way I don't have to create my own.
