..the article goes on to say...

"The Greenes were planning to spend the holiday weekend with their family in Louisiana. They were driving eastbound on I-20 around 6:30 p.m. on Friday when a tractor-trailer slammed into their SUV in heavy traffic, police said.
Witnesses said the rig’s driver, Charles Moody, 40, of Mississippi, tried, but couldn’t stop.
White said it’s unclear why Moody wasn’t able to stop in time."

    Great...:biggrin_25513:

Why is it, that every wreck I've seen lately involves fire??? Lots and lots of fire. Newer vehicles, trucks included, seem to be rolling incendiary devices just waiting for a crash to set them off. I theorize it's because of the overuse of plastic in everything, including fuel tanks and lines.

Might be because of the excessive heat being generated by the newer emissions systems.

Mr. McGuire: I just want to say one word to you - just one word.
    Ben: Yes sir.
    Mr. McGuire: Are you listening?
    Ben: Yes I am.
    Mr. McGuire: 'Plastics.'
Ben: Exactly how do you mean?
Mr. McGuire: There's a great future in plastics. Think about it. Will you think about it?
    Ben: Yes I will.
Mr. McGuire: Shh! Enough said. That's a deal.

All it takes is a momentary lapse in concentration, and these knuckleheads plow through 4-wheelers, killing people left and right... real hands don't let up one bit unless there's nobody else around. I do all those little tasks (reaching for a snack, taking a drink, checking my atlas, etc.) on straightaways when there are no other drivers near me... it's the only way.

Sir, i agree with you 100%. When i mentioned on an earlier post that a driver should loose his license and do jail time for slamming into the rear of an SUV stopped at a work zone because his excuses was a temp. lapse of concentration, i got a comment that it happens to everyone and sooner or later it will happen to me. well to who ever said that, sorry but in broad daylite i seriously doubt it. How many more threads do we need to read about supposed pro-drivers ramming the back of vehicles and Murdering poeple on the hi-way?

It's sad to read this stuff. As long as truck drivers think 40 feet is a safe following distance, people are going to get rear ended. You can do it a million times and get away with it. Then the one in a million happens.

You can maintain good driving habits or bad habits. The choice is yours.

If it ever came down to hitting someone or running off in a ditch killing yourself. I believe I would take the ditch. No one should die from someone else's neglect.

It's hard to say though with a split second decision. Most likely the so called accident could of been prevented.
