I was sitting at T/A in Hebron,Oh last nite and went to get a quote for 2 steer firestone tires. 900!! WTF? They used to sell them for around 300 a piece. But as I went around truck stop I noticed all that advertising gone. And then I got it. They had line of trucks waiting for work, DOT inspecions starting nx week, and I quess they decided to jack-up prices a bit ( like 50 %). Wonder what they going to charge nx week.

You gotta remember though, all advertised prices do not include mounting, balancing, tax, and core charge if trade-in is not cap-able. But still, $900 for 2 is a tad high. Check out other sources before you plunk down your $$$$.

Blip them. I'll get a set for around 650 instaled when I get home.

Are they made in China?

Buy your tires at a tire shop.
Why would anyone buy tires at a truckstop? You know going in that they're gonna charge way more than they're worth, That's what they do!bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
the truck stops mainly rely on mega carriers. there are some co's with co drivers & o/o that have their insp done only at the T.A. & if there is any thing that needs fixing, or changing like tires, the truck is not allowed to move until it is fixed & if it is o/o leased then the o/o will not get another load until problem fixed.
I used to be leased to a co that required all o/o to be inspected at T.A.'S. after getting a bogus insp trying to get me to spend money on something I did not need. I told them to shove it. -
You cannot legally hold me anywhere, OR my vehicle. I have the right to get it fixed (or fix it myself) anywhere I choose, and I refuse to pay someone to fix a bogus problem. If I am paying for an inspection, that is ALL I am paying for. If there is an issue, bring it to my attention and I'll decide at that point what to do about it...but you have no legal basis to hold me against my will (kidnapping), or to seize my vehicle until I authorize you to do additional work (extortion).
I made the mistake of going to a TA to get a screw pulled out of a tire and the leak fixed. They charged $54...a full $20 higher than ANYONE else. When I told them their price was ridiculous and more than $20 higher than any other tire patch/plug I've ever got, they laughed and asked where I get my tires fixed for $10. Apparently, they aren't good at math either. Most places are between $25 and $35 when all is said and done...labor, parts, taxes, fees...everything. That is what I had expected to pay...should have checked before, I guess. Lesson learned. TA won't be getting any more of my money, though...not even for fuel. -
Shop arround. There are small business owners that will fix tires at a fraction of the price. Big stations don't care what they charge. One of my trucks had a flat tire, they quoted me $200 for a tire that had about 15% life left on it. I called a local guy to come and fix it at TA for same price with a tire that had 60% life left on it.

He didn't say TA was holding his truck but the company the driver is leased onto. That is the norm and if you don't abide by the company rules and the contract you signed then your lease is terminated.
roshea Thanks this. -
and then he adds this:
"& if it is o/o leased then the o/o will not get another load until the problem is fixed."
In other words, the company doesn't GARA who fixes it...they just won't dispatch the truck until the problem is corrected if they are notified of the alleged problem by the TA. Thing is, though, as long as my annual inspection has not already expired, it is still legal to drive to another shop. A truck stop shop cannot place a vehicle OOS...only an LEO can do that. So if the TA "finds" a problem, I am well within my right to take the truck up the road to a different shop (of my own choosing) to get the work (which I have to pay for) done. The TA (nor any other shop) can hold a truck demanding unauthorized work be paid for or attempting to force you to authorize additional work they want you to have done. Federal leasing laws also prohibit carriers from forcing you to buy any product or service from them or through them...and dictating to you where you MUST go to get work done on YOUR truck is essentially doing just that.
