i hope you know that if you do go to that millington school, you will have to work for Swift for two full years before the "loan" is all paid off. i know this for a fact. i made that same mistake in September of '09. after the second day, i left. they allow you two days to see what is going on without owing them anything.

the first day they fed us lunch off the roach coach. the hotel was nasty and was roach infested. it is a two bed hotel that has 4 single cots and one table. the kitchen had a stove and oven, an ok size fridge, plenty of storage for food, and hardly anything to cook with. they claim it is a fully stocked kitchen. well the problem is after people stay there and steal everything, nothing is replaced.

the first day was BS videos and long winded instructors blabbering. drug test, the physical which was very in depth, but no work well fitness test at all. they do an in depth hearing test as well.

the first day was 12 hours, and the second day was 15.5 hours. the thing that made the second day such BS was the range instructor taking 3 hours on verbally explaining double clutching. you can sit and be told how to do it over and over, but believe me, the best way to learn double clutching if you dont know how or what it is, just get in a tractor and ride with an instructor and watch. it is that simple. they told us that the 3rd day would be on the range shifting. there were 40+ students in the class and 5 instructors, and one of those had to be on the yard at all times directing traffic. so that left 4 instructors for the rest of the students. you can fit 5 people in one of the tractors, and what to the others do? sit and wait.

after that day i left and went to a real school that taught me how to do it the right way, not one of these CDL farms. do a little research.............the Millington location was the one that was handing out the CDLs to people who never took a day of class, and one of those drivers caused one hell of an accident in Ohio and killed many people. it went right back to millington TN. the DOT, FBI and everyone tore that place apart, hence the reason Swift lost the 3rd party tester certification they had.

if i were you, i would check in to a local college there and apply for state and federal grants to help you pay for the class. dont get trapped in one of those places. after the deductions and paybacks, your check with swift would be no more than 250 a week after deductions. you can make that at burger king and be home very night.

my school i went too cost me $1100.00 and $666.00 of that was paid with a state grant. you will be in much better shape doing it this way. the CDL farms barely teach you how to get in and out of a truck, not to mention using your head in tight situations and slowing down and taking your time. that is the biggest help when your driving. take your time, knowing when to slow down, and how set yourself up for a turns and parking. dont let anyone rush you. rushing and not thinking something though will get you or someone killed or seriously injured. never assume anything when your driving. always think that someone is going to run the light your approaching, always be ready to stop when coming up on a stagnant traffic light, and the biggest thing you will see that pisses me off is cars that will speed up and get in front of you with no turn signal, then slow down. what that does is takes away your following distance, and it can set you up for a following too close ticket if you happen to pass a cop and he sees the end result of the cars turn. all the cop sees is you on the cars ###, and you were not doing a thing but what you were supposed to do.

sorry for the rambling, but please check in to a local technical college and see if they offer commercial truck driving and be sure it is PTDI certified. you will thank yourself in the long run.

    good luck.

cadillacdude1975, thanks for all of your info, i have been doing a lot reading up on that millington school and they have turned thing around there. i have looked into other schools were i'm from but they are too expencive one of them wants $8500 and the other is $6000 and they don't take grants they want cash or cosigner and i can't get either one, the one school told me i needed to have 3 or more prehires before i might be acepted there, so after calling and calling many places i didn't have much luck at all, my mvr report isnt that bad no dwi or anything no felonys, i had careless for no insurance once but all is good now thats 4yrs old and nothing since, i'v been talking to swift since march, have not been able to get intouch with anyone from crete don't know why, well gess i'll see what happens with swift i'm able to stay with them 2yrs like you said to repay school, i'v not had any work for over 1yr and a half. feel free to put up any more info if you like as it would still be helpful thanks agian.

well if swift is your only option then by all means take what you can. i know all about the being out of work, i am on month 14 of that myself.

one other thing they do at the swift motel is that as people leave or fail out for medical reasons/personal reasons, they will shuffle your room assignments when ever they see fit to compress the amount of rooms so they dont have to pay as much.
