I've always understood they are checking for THC/opiates and other illegal stuff.

10 4......I can pass a dot physical and i got a current medical card but i take medicine for chlorestorol and blood pressure
-
OK, i can attest to the BP meds NOT showing up on the drug test, either pre-hire or random. During a DOT physical, I don't cop to having high BP since I take meds and it is "normal". Got a 1 year card one time about 10 years ago and figured out how to beat them at their game. Have had 2 year cards ever since.

Well, the meds don't show up in a physical, so why shoot yourself in the foot and only get a 1 year card? If you have high BP and take meds to keep it normal, then, in fact, you do not have high BP right? Yes, you are lying about your medical condition and if caught could get a wrist slap, but, I'll risk it. But, that's just me, you do what you need to do.

A wrist slap? You call losing your job and possible your career a wrist slap?

I think it is wise to let the company know what your conditions are and you should never lie on any form. However, for a drug test all the places I've been will not allow you to divulge any medications you're taking. The way it was explained to me was take the test and if anything came back the MRO would contact you to ask why.
This has happened to me with codeine. I had a tooth pulled and after 2 days I took a test. I thought no big deal and frankly didn't even remember it. I got the call from the MRO and he asked me if I was taking any medication and all I did was explained the tooth. He directed me to show the medicine bottle to my boss (I was at a remote terminal) and all was done. Then, after the next test I was taking synthroid and tried to inform the collector and she told me they were not allowed to write any medications on any of the forms. She told me if there are any problems your company will contact you. Made sense to me after what happened.
