1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Not driven in some time my class A has not expired, But I have often thought that it would be a shoe-in for a job in the industry with a class A.. Oh well just found out recently how much the complexion of the industry has turned. Some time ago I approached a company but was told no recent exp., and so forth and so on!!!!! What companies would still accept refresher courses (swift or werner) even accept them.. It has been 3 years since I have been in a truck..HELP need some direction from someone who has been where I am...THANX

    Been there, done that.
    Started driving in 1972,
    Retired in 2005.
Ran out of money, now find out I am not qualified. Have to start all over.
So here I am, working in a training company.
yea...the industry changed while we were napping!

I am in the same boat. Drove from 1993 until 2000, got married, got out. Now, no longer married, looking to get back in, and looking at school.

There is a trucker in my class at Roadmaster. He was out for a while and is coming back in. I am guessing he ran into the same thing and decided to fork over the money for the class to get back in the door.

Have you tried to find some local work.. In state with occasional over the line trips? That's what I did.. I ran containers They're wanting drivers bad. The $$ stinks, but after a while I found a company that vouched for me having the required 6 months verifiable OTR experiance I needed to get my foot back in the door. (I didn't even work for 6 months maybe 1 month total.. Just found an O/O that I covered a few loads for he needed some time out of his truck to take care of things..I ran it for him.. He was my "referance" for my 1 job after my break in driving..)

I guess were all tryin to do the same thing, I started in 2003 and did 3 years otr, then 2 years local and due to family issues I took a Civil Service gig in june of 08, pays well, but not where my heart is. Current CDL with all endorcements, Was wondering if a decent company would just put me with a trainer for a few weeks. Im just researching right now.
