Can anyone tell me if a colder thermostat is available for the MXS? Maybe a 180 or 185 degree. My cooling system works fine, it just heats up easy when loaded heavy, especially on hot days. But it always cools down quickly with the fan on.

there may be from an aftermarket supplier, maybe try pittsburgh power, but not from cat, they specially engineer the cooling system on the acert's to run hotter than the old E model so as a way to keep emissions down, working along with the dual turbo and vva. I would try washing out your air2air and radiator and see if that doesn't help the hot day issue.

Pittsburg Power sells 180 thermstats I have them in my MXS I was hoping it might help keep water temp. down. Thought maybe if it started off a few degrees cooler it wouldn't heat up so fast BUT I cant see that it made much of a differance. If you have to have them out for some reason I would change them but not just for the sake of trying to get it to run cooler. I changed mine when I put on a exhaust manifold form PDI(which I strongly recomend!)Roadhound Thanks this. -
Cat and Cummins thermostats are made just alike and if you wanna try a cooler temp you will have to get it from Cummins.
EverLuc Thanks this. -
does m11 have more than 1 stat my truck runs a little hot to me about 180 empty but loaded it will get up to 200 fast and fan cools it down preety fast....

Cat thermostats by part number and opening temperature, these will fit BXS/NXS/MXS Acerts, C15s, C16s and C12s etc. not sure about the later DPF Acerts.

Well I appreciate the info on that. I was just trying like you to keep from having to run the fan so much. What differences did you see in changing the manifold?
-
I wash out the air to air and radiator every time I wash the truck, which is about every week. Never seems to make a difference. I know the Acerts build more heat due to all the emissions crap. I don't understand why Peterbilt didn't beef up the cooling systems for these engines.

pitts power has 180 stats but that wont fix your problem you need bigger cooling capasity that means a bigger raitiator core.

.5MPG! Better throttle response.
