My wife and I are considering going team otr car hauling out of tampa, fl. i will be training her since she has no experience.
Anyone know of any good Companies who need teams? I have hauled cars locally for over 1.5 years but have over 8 years experience driving and about 5 years otr. Any replies from experienced otr car haulers would be appreciated! Thanks:smt001

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

PM poster "LuvMyHubby". I think she may be able to point you in the right direction. Good Luck.

Have you found any answers to your questions?
DH and I have really been throwing around the idea of teams/car haulers.
Well, more so me wanting to get my CDLs. He says no way, he'd rather drive alone and just have me ride along.
Just wondering if you got any help or info since you last posted. -
There is supposedly a company in TX that runs teams and hauls cars but I dont know of one myself.
I know where hubby works they dont do the team thingy (2 people one truck) -
call either D.A.S. in mesquite, texas "dependable auto shippers" or try reliable auto transport. they have an office in orlando and they have large cars with the apartment sleepers.you may not have enough experience to get hired-on w/ them.

Not much help here. I haul cars locally now and would only go on the road if my wife and i go together. She wants to try it so we will see how it works. Several more experienced drivers i work with have suggested some local otr hauler companies who would hire us.
I have got so many replies from people who have never hauled cars so i won't be taking them seriously....truckers are always so negative...another reason why i have no real trucker friends! -
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I got so excited when I saw your post because your situation is exactly what DH and I have been throwing back and forth. I would definately go w/ DH but he doesn't want me to get my CDLs. Not really sure why? :smt102 I've not had any accidents in our 10 years of marriage and I think I could do it but when I ask him to teach me he just kind of gives me this sideway look. :smt042 But DH has been driving for 10 years, accident free. I wonder how much experience these car hauling places are looking for? I wish I knew someone personally who hauled for them I'd love to pick their brain. Basically, if DH and I did it we'd like to just make the truck our home and save pretty much all we made or the other idea we have been throwing around is perhaps buy a home and just throw all the money towards it to get it paid off quickly and invest the rest. We really don't like debt if you can tell.
Anyway, from what we've heard there is good money to be made in car hauling and that's why we've really been kicking this around.
Good luck in your research and I'll try and post anything that I find that may be of some help to you and your DW. -
I ran my own 10 car auto transport from 99-03 and then got out of driving and now I'm looking to get back into OTR and team with my son-in-law. We have been running a family business since 03' but now things are a little slower than we'd like and trucking might be the extra boost to catch things up and develope our families river front property. I liked hauling cars and ran mostly between southern Cal, Texas and the NW. At the time I hauled it was easy getting loaded runs out of Texas to the west coast but almost always dead head running from California to the east. That is the only problem I seen with car hauling, having dead head loads going in one direction. There was a big shortage of drivers at the time, especially O/O. Not sure how things are going in the business now. When the economy weakens, used auto transporting goes up and new auto hauls are more limited.

Thanks. I know i would never go on the road and want my wife to stay home. She is the one who came up with this idea anyway. i was otr for about 5 years, in a previous marriage, and will never do that again. Team driving could work even if you haul general freight. I think they even make at least 100k together and as long as your a husband and wife team the money goes in one place. I hear its about the same pay as a solo when your teaming with a non-spouse....so whats the point?
I already have some very good Company leads from the people i work with who have been in the otr car hauling business for quite a while. It is just a matter of sorting through the right Company for us....preferably someone with a new or fairly new truck who runs west coast back east to fl weekly would be ideal. I have been car hauling locally for over a year and a half and now iam confident i can handle any type of load. I know there are car haul Companies who will hire no car haul experienced drivers but normally you would have to have at least 2 years cdl driving experience for that type of job.
I really like who i work for now; they are a good family owned Company and treat me very well and i have a new truck....i will miss working for them but my wife and i have goals which we can't meet with our current income.........so thats why we're trying team car hauling
I always appreciate any input from experienced car haulers who may be able to point us in the right direction. -
I have been following this thread to see where it would go and I hope that since Tomhaul99 has gotten some information on companies that do car hauling with teams that he would be kind enough to post it here for the benefit of all posters.....that is after all the goal of the board to help everyone.
As for discounting information provided by people who have never hauled cars, IMO that is not the best idea. There are LOTS of people on this board with all types of trucking industry experience, just because they haven't set behind the wheel of a rig hauling the type of loads your interested in does not in anyway mean they do not possibly have information that could help you out. I am NOT a driver (don't wanna be either) BUT I promise you this I know A LOT about the business, and since my husband is a NEW car hauler (BMW's, Mercedes etc) I do know a thing or three about that area of trucking.
Car haulers seem to be few and far between so any information you can share about companies would be really nice.
