ACCIDENTS: What are the top causes?

I'd say speeding.

Stupidity. Mostly riding on 4 wheels or less.

 

My answers were both taken, Speeding and following too close.
The following too close is a huge one. So is not looking far enough up the road.
If a truck gets in front of you so that you cannot see a half mile or more up the road then you either need to back off or find another way to be able to see what is going on in front of him.
I see trucks on my bumper and everyone else's all day. They are less than 1 truck length behind and cannot see anything past the bumper of the truck in front.
If something happens and the front driver has to hit the brakes, the one in back is in trouble.
Even worse is when 2+ do this. Because the first tailgaiter may get lucky. But by the time he responds that will shorten distance, then number 2 has more reaction time.
Someone is getting hit.

 

Lack of attention it seems to me is a big cause for accidents.

 

Not seeing ahead is another. And I don't mean just looking down the road. When you're out here all the time, you start to be able to see what's about to happen before it does, and avoid it.

 

i agreee with chromedome to an extent. i was heading east on i40 in nm, was running 60, had another trk pass me at the peak of a hill, i had 300 ft plus to the next trk in front of me, the ash hol flew past me, at the top of the hill he slammed on his brakes and moved over into my lane to keep from hitting a pickup trk, (wreck on the other side of the hill with no warning)leaving me with the crappy end of the stick, i had to stand on my brakes and switch lanes to keep from rear ending him. im still pretty fresh at driving a truck as im nearing the end of my 60k mile training period, so far i have noticed that its all the dumb s**** that dont give a crap about ne one but them selfs, paying attention to what you are doing and as well paying attention to the next guy seems to really keep you out of most bad situations

 

Other trucks blocking the roadway is also a great cause of accidents. Just as the post I quoted above.... I-40 in New Mexico is a 75 mph zone..... I feel if a truck can't do the speed limit or the driver doesn't want to do the speed limit.... They should seek an alternate route that does not include the high speed highways.
