Buying first truck

i noticed in the truck paper that their are a lot of truck auctions around the country. you might get a good deal there.

 

That is a small C-13 they run in there trucks. Look at truckpaper and you will find better deals. I saw a few freightliner columbia and century trucks with 10 and 13 speeds with 500 DD in them. I saw one that was under 400K and was in the mid 20s.

Yeah that T2000 has a Cat and all but its still just a C-13 not a big C-15 or C-16 so that means that little C-13 is turned up all the way and probably gets beat on just to keep speed up where as a 500+ HP motor would be half throttle and not need to be beat up so much.

 

The asking price for trucks are still pretty high, in the truck paper. I here it,s a buyers market and the prices are low, because of lack of freight,alot of competion for a load. Then the truck dealers have high prices, problobly trying to gain a profit, like anyone would.

 

I have seen a couple of really good looking trucks that are specd out really good and are in the 20s. Under 400K miles on them and they are in the low to mid 20Ks. I dont think thats that bad.

If your on with a good company there is no shortage of freight. I dont see how there is a shortage of say reefer freight because people are still eating...

The landstarbrokers.com website has a lot of freight on there still. I was just looking at it out of curiosity and there is a lot of freight of anykind on there still.

 

I looked at the Stevens T2000s at MHC, they were all C15s, 435hp. None had a C13, just sayin.

 

My mistake. Back when I was looking into them about 5 years ago they all had 435hp C-13s and 10 speeds.

 

I agree with you cgc. 16% is outrageous and I would tell freightliner to F off. When it comes time for me to buy a truck I would not mind having a T600 or even the T660. I have heard that they are very nice trucks and are quality built. I would be in the same position as you if I was to buy a truck right now with the interest rates. I also have A credit but I would probably go through a CU or a Bank for a loan instead of through the dealer depending on the interest rate I could get.

 

I think they just buy what ever is cheapest at Kenworth when their order goes in. You are probably correct for the trucks back in '04/'05. I did notice that they are asking a lot less than they used to at MHC for ex Stevens equipment, a truck that used to be $45K is now a $36K, certified tho, 200K engine warranty, 750K on the tranny, roadside asist etc etc. Thats a not a bad deal on an '06 with miles in the low 400's, hi 300's.
