Just found the site and can't wait to start reading up. I do not own a truck (yet) or have a CDL for that matter. I am in the Transportation Insurance field and probably have a few of you folks insured in one way or another.

Anyway, I am considering starting a small company or at least buying a truck to lease on somewhere and need some more info on what to look for and where to go. Even if I do not, I enjoy knowing a little more about the business that pays my bills as well as yours.

I live very close to Monteagle, TN, so I am sure many of you know where I am. Been in insurance for a little over 10 years now. Have a wife of 10 years and a little girl that will be turning 4 in no time at all.

I look forward to reading your comments.

    JC,

Welcome to the forum. I am KH, a greeter. To begin, please consider the chances of a newbie of succeeding in a lease is slim to none. Most lease companies will screw you to death. Some are very luck and do not. Please check out these sections on here:

If you decide to go o/o immediately, please consider that only a few let you do this. Trans Am and CRE are two I know. Even companies such as US Xpress and Swift require 6 months experience. Remember if you lease from a company, they CONTROL EVERYTHING. Consider going through Lone Mountain Truck as you only need to put down $3200-4200 down payment and need other documents. Members Medicineman, and Tankergal went through them. I would pm Medicineman as he got his 04' Columbia through them and can explain what is needed etc..... Good luck and welcome aboard. Remember help is only one click away on this networking site.

Thank you everyone. As a side note, I do not want to drive...much.

I am considering just buying (Not a Lease) a truck and hiring a driver to put in it. I have several companies that know drivers and I am trying to decide if it will be lucrative for me. There are many out there that do it, I just need to decide if I want to.

The knowledge I have learned already has helped me out.

Good Luck!!! Glad you have already found a lot of useful information. Good that you are looking into all aspects of the purchase before doing it. And finding out from the operators point of view before doing so. I tell ya what though. I might be steered more towards leasing your truck onto a flat bed / heavy haul company though. the loads pay a bit more so you will have more income to pay your out of pocket expenses, make money yourself and still be able to pay your driver enough to pay his bills and feed his family. :biggrin_25525:
