    But I do agree the 34 is BS,24 straight is more then plenty.

    Lol, whatever, man. At least I ain't the one overly using the "older and wiser" excuse as I way to make myself seem correct all the time just outta default. I may still be a newb with my less than significant experience as some of you may feel but I'm not stupid. Just because some of you have been around the block a few times more than me doesn't make. me inferior. I may not have been on the road as long as some of you have, but I didn't just start driving a week ago.

    I basically agree with this, when a driver is taking the "reset" out on the road, either in a motel or in the truck, 24 hours should be enough hours to satisfy a "reset". Now at home, I really would like to something worked out where the "reset" could be 48 hours or more.

    I think they decided on the 34 hours so that you take your normal 10 hour break, then an extra day off 24+10=34.
    No such thing as a forced restart, unless your company or the DOT make you take it.
    The 34 is an option. Normally after 24 off you will have gotten some hours back at midnight. I just hate running while backed up to my 70, makes it hard to take some good loads.
    The only time I ever ran out the hours fast enough that I would have to wait more than a day to get something back was when running flatbed. I would use my 70 in 5 days. So I needed that break just to work.
    But again, the 34 was only an option. If you really want too you can wait 2 or 3 days to get your hours back and never log it as a restart. No clue why anyone would do that, but you can.

    The safety people want us working 8 hours a day on a 5-6 day work week. They want the 11th hour of driving gone and the 34 gone. It would be interesting to see that happen. I wonder how long it would take to starve them to death if they ever got that passed.

    11 hours drive a day, and 3 hours on duty a day. Don't see why you would have to log 3 hours on duty every day like that and burn through them. I ran out of hours every once in a while when out. It was usually on the second load after starting fresh and it was a hot load that had to get there now. I think if they were to get rid of the 34 reset, then they should get rid of the 70 hour rule and maybe change it to 80 hours. Because what if you are a guy that goes home every weekend and had a busy week close to your 70, well get home for two days and you get screwed on your hours.

    You can manage your recap like you manage your logbook.

    If you average 10 hrs a day, you'll never run out in theory. :)
    It's them short days that hurt your 70 and force you into a restart.
    When on a long haul, I try to balance my time across the days.

    When you drop off a 4 and pick up an 11.... ouch :)

    I was running thru my 70 in 5 days running flats.
    We would pick up a loaded trailer on Monday morning. We would run our butts off from there. I would normally log 30 min on duty for load and unload, more if tarps were needed. Many days I was logging 14 hours worked each day, many days I was working more.
    We would start the week with a longer run, then reload headed back toward home.
    Sometimes it would take a few stops to get back. Also many of our loads out were LTL type. I would have 2-3 stops to fill the trailer.
    It was allot of work for pretty good money and benefits.
