That's the first I'd heard about Challenger and a union. Since you asked, I'm wondering as well. Was that the MCX part of them in Detroit, or the whole company?:biggrin_25525:

No union at Challenger.A few Frenchmen were making noise about getting the teamsters in,but it never happened.MCX is the US division of Challenger.

I remember end of last year the talk started. Even had small article in truck news.

    From november - http://www.cambridgereporter.com/news/article/195957

And apparently in early may they filed a complaint - http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/May2010/06/c9286.html

So was there some kind of a secret vote at challanger to reject the union?
I have never seen any newspaper stories with a follow-up on this thing.

No...the teamsters never managed to get enough drivers to sign cards to even bring it to a vote, but there are still a few die-hards from PQ that seem to think it may happen some day.

This is what I heard from a few drivers regarding Andy Stieva Trucking out of Beamsville On.

The owner is rude and loud. He pushes his drivers over hours. One driver stated he had to pull a load from Jordan Station On with 5 drops in Miami, he had 36 hours. He managed to get all of his drops when he was told to reload and start heading back. The driver said "No" and the owner got really mad. When he returned back to the yard in Beamsville he walked away from Andy Stieva Trucking.

Their Driver Safe Stat score is 96.8 I guess when CSA2010 rolls out he wont be in business any more.

i drove for Penner International for a number of years...really have nothing bad to say about them. As a whole they kept me busy, very few layoffs. If anything they ran Chicago WAY to much. HATE that city. Then drove for small outfit called DM Krenkowich...GREAT company in my eyes. Now gonna start with Arnold Brothers. WE will see how great that will be.

I worked as local driver for Arnold Bros. for a number of years out in Vancouver. I liked them they were pretty good to work for, I still keep in touch with a number of the drivers (mainly for the container div.) and my old dispatcher and manager. If they ever put a truck on Vancouver Island I would totally work for them again. I only left cause I was sick and tired of driving around the Lower Mainland and went back home to the Island.

Well I know that I am at one of the very few good places to work.
I have been here since Dec 1st and let me tell you. You can still make money.
Here is a example of one of my months
this is a Air freight LtL company out of West Coast.Head Office is Seattle Wa Area.
I drove 12985 miles that is 2 rounders per month with a average of 6 drops 5 picks all in Nc and Tn area and back to Ab,2 drops and rest to YVR
Gross rev is $29,856 to the truck and also my dry van
$23,884.80.to me I am averaging a $1.80 to $2.03 per mile AND NO BULL
    average weight 12,000lbs to 31,000lbs

    Fuel $8,500 cdn
    Truck Ins $905.00
Pro Rate $500.00 (payed off in 4 payments)
    Trailer Ins $105.00
    Cargo Ins $305.50
    IFTA varies $65.00 average
Cartage fee $500.00 (for city trucks to pick up my cargo so I can have a little home time)
    Adm Fee $250.00

$3,000 draw on 15th of month and Rest on last day of month
So all total $13,754 taken off that leaves me over ten G's a month and I will tell you it is every month and getting better, the rates keep going up
And Sorry guy's we are just taking on our last two trucks one owner from MB that makes 10 of us out of YVR term .Keep looking there are more good places to work
It took me awhile but I found a great home...:biggrin_25523:
