We're currently at a soft/hard mandate stage. Certain companies will be required to use them, although the rules keep changing.
The rules are leading us to EOBR usage. So you might as well get ready for it. -
i'll put a for sale sign in the window the day it becomes mandatory. let you guys, the swift, j.b., punkin, and the mexicans have it all. 2 docs have tried to put me on disability, and like a fool, i chose to buy a job (truck) and keep working to EARN my keep. the muscle spasms from the broken neck i suffered 3 years ago torments me constantly. i'm not buying another expensive piece of electronic equipment to rule my life.
you guys who get paid by the mile will starve. all it takes is one shipper to hold you at rhe dock 1/2 a day and you are hosed. and you think there's not enough parking now??
the goal here is to finally get the last part of nafta run through. with thousands of mexicans up here, and you can bet werner will hire as many illegals as they can, the carnival will start soon.
i'll wave as you go by the house, cuz i'm friendly. the laughing i'll be doing is because i goet a warped sense of humor.
we needed a union of some sort yesterday. now, there's no tomorrow.virgil tatro Thanks this. -
You ever hear the song "Old Hippie" by the Bellamy Brothers ???
I recently volunteered for the test run of EOBR's at the company I drive for.
You adapt or starve in this industry. The EOBR will not affect good drivers who work for good companies. The problem is, there are few good companies. I'm running 100% legal now without the EOBR, and making money. Good money. An EOBR will not affect my check....period.
Back to the companies. I get unloaded, then sent another immediately. I decide whether I can run it, or not. NOT my dispatcher. If I can't, they send another.....and repeat as needed. I generally speed this process up, by sending them the hours I have before I get empty.
If your company can't throw enough freight at you....then you're working for a complete POS.
I pulled OUT of line at the shipper this past Friday night...because I was tired of waiting. Took my 10 break, unloaded, got my other load...and came home for the remainder of the weekend. I unload sometime tomorrow (maybe), 3 blocks from my house.
This is the first time in 6 weeks I have gotten in this late. I have the ability (barring breakdowns) to get 2500-3000 miles a week, provided everything goes right. And I generally get 48 hours at the house, minimum.
I have 2200 for this week, and had my truck in the shop 4 times. A/C issues...ask me how pissed I was
If you work for a POS company....you will starve. Mileage pay is NOT the issue

OOIDA took the fmcsa to court just a few days ago on the eobrs dont know what happened...
-
From my understanding OOIDA is not trying to "put off" anything. But they are trying to get some ruling/clarification on use as personal transportation and a few other key areas, that really need to be addressed.
There is some confusion when it comes to the term EOBR. For FMCSA, the term EOBR is the electronic log. For trucking and the general public, it appears they just want some sort of tracking/recording devise, and this isn't true. There are some companies using this type of devise, but very few. Most are hourly paid...and I too would dictate my drivers actually work for the money...not take breaks at the local tittie bar on the clock.
If companies and O/O are willing to give this a go, before it becomes a hard mandate. They'll have a better chance of getting things done right, when the hard mandate comes down.
Case in point: Do you really want the time you spend pulling up in a long line at a shipper recorded as driving ?? Would it not serve us better to be designated as "on duty", since we're not really going anywhere.
On the other side of that issue: One of our drivers complained this week, that anything under 15 mph would be recorded on Line 4. Even after I explained to him, it would not go to Line 4 immediately when speeds fell below 15 mph. It would only do it after the driver had put himself on Line 4, to check in with the shipper, fuel, DOT inspection, etc. -
LOL....
I love it when someone comments on something they obviously know nothing about except for what they've heard from some one else who was just as clueless as they are.
Im on paperless logs..... Have been since December. Im not starving and I havent lost any miles.
Just like what was mentioned on another EOBR thread, the one's that dont want any part of electronic logs are the ones that cant run any other way other than illegal.
I used to think the same thing but of course, I listened to too many people that didnt know how to use them themselves and ever since I started using them, I wouldnt go back to drawin lines. -
Your very wrong on the statement that the ones that don't want the eobrs can't run legal i run legal 100% of the time and i will not put one in my truck when and if they become mandatory the last time i checked this was america i dont need big brother looking over my shoulder telling me when to go or stop period if all you big company drivers like em good for you but leave the rest of us alone enough with this BS allready.
Katz, truckerdave1970 and krash13ss Thank this. -
If you run legal then you shouldn't worry about paperless logs. Period.
-
Not true i don't want someone looking over my shoulder and telling me when to stop or not, if you need someone to look over you so be it but i dont with only a year of trucking you might need a nanny i dont period.
