This is the Peterbilt 281 and the tanker trailer used in the 1971 movie Duel.

What type of trailer is that? I've never seen anything like it.

If you can find out what type of trailer that is, could you tell me it's capacity and tare weight?

It's probably a multiple compartment tanker, similar to the liquid bulk fuel delivery trucks except larger and on a trailer truck instead of a straight truck.

I'm not sure of the make, but it looks like it could have been made by Fruehauf. The plumbing and valves are concealed under the sheet steel body fairings. The tractor and the trailer appear to have steel disk wheels instead of the older style cast center and split rim.

I don't know, but a guy not far from me just bought that truck. I will see it at his annual show next month.

It's just an old style multi compartment tanker...I used to see them a lot when I was a kid, They were usually delivering gas to our local station.

That's how most old company gas delivery trucks were configured in those days.

Hold on now, that truck was wrecked in the movie, went over the cliff, remember? And caught fire too. Or, was it "special effects"? Or, did they have 3 of the same kind to film, like in "Dukes of Hazard" where they had 5 or 6 Chargers as back-ups.

OK, I found out what type it is.
    It's a 7000 gallon Fruehauf from 1948.

Can someone give me an estimate of its tare weight?
