Sorry, but when you walk into a situation like that and start shoving someone who is obviously out numbered, you should be expected to get punched.
-
She has since apologized to the cop. She was also charged yesterday..
Yep.. You lay hands on a cop expect to get smacked..Native Dancer, statikuz and walleye Thank this. -
Well the way I see it, he was outnumbered and his life could had been in trouble so I think he had every right to do that. It better taking out his gun and shoot her.
statikuz Thanks this. -
Following a review of the tape in question, the girls got what was deserved.

See, now I'm on the other side of that fence. The women were not doing anything threatening towards the officer, other than their wrestling to escape his grasp. They weren't striking the officer, and they weren't reaching for his weapons. One was trying to twist her way out of the officers grip, and the other stepped in to assist. That's when the cop reared back and popped the second woman in the mouth.
Sorry, but if I was the guy with the camera (or anyone else in the vicinity) and witnessed this, my first reaction would be to restrain the cop as he was the one making the aggressive escalation in force. He was the only one attempting to injure anyone else.
If I knew the women...if one was my mother/sister/girlfriend/daughter/cousin/etc..., that officer wouldn't have walked away. He would have been laid out before his backup arrived, and would probably be missing a few teeth, too. I may go to jail for it, but you dang well better believe he'd have a permanent injury to remind him of his mistake.
The punch was uncalled for. Period. That badge does NOT give him the right to physically assault anyone he decides is being uncooperative. -
When an officer is trying to affect an arrest, you don't resist. Plain and simple. If you resist be prepared to accept the consequences.
And yes, If you stepped in to be macho man you would be looking for bail too..Native Dancer and statikuz Thank this. -
The badge and the gun don't mean squat. You have to earn my respect...it is not freely given. If people who have my respect are being harassed by someone who does not, I will side with those who have my respect...ESPECIALLY if I feel they are at an unfair disadvantage or are being abused in any way.
When an officer crosses that line and steps outside of what would be considered acceptable behavior by anyone who doesn't happen to have a badge, they are abusing their "power". The alleged crime in this instance was jaywalking. Not rape, not murder, not armed robbery....just jaywalking. They made no aggressive actions toward the officer and were in no way trying to do him any harm...they just wanted HIS hands off of HER. The punch was out of line, and at that point, that badge doesn't mean a thing to me. Punch a woman in front of me, and I'm going to step into the fight...ESPECIALLY if I know her. Heck, a female friend of mine had a boss who was just threatening to hit her and all she would have had to do was say the word and I would have been there (a 6 hour drive) to meet him after work. I don't take kindly to men hitting women. I don't care if you are a cop, her husband, her boss, or a total stranger...you hit her in front of me, you are asking for trouble.
