I would love to get a piece of that wood to make pens out of it! Talk about a piece of history.

Correct! I turn my own ink pens, pocket watches, and other small items on a lathe. I used to have a nice little side business till the Great State of Ohio found out that I never filed any sales tax and they didn't get there cut! But that is a whole other thread!
Yes, I make ink pens out of wood, acrylics, antler, even rifle casings.
I love to make pens from historical wood, wood that has a story or special meaning for someone. I have pens made from salvaged teak decking off of the USS North Carolina. Not very pretty but it's the story behind it thar gives it value.

    That's awesome!

I have some wood from various old Fords I've restored, I should send you some.

The wood has came from the following- 1912 Ford, 1929,1930, 1931 Fords.

They aren't big pieces but I would think you could make pens out of them.

Ford used alot of Birch, Maple, Elm in their cars back then.

As long as the piece are at least 5" long and 3/4" x 3/4" thick. And the wood should be dry by now, hopefully not too punky or soft either.
That would be a neat project.
What would really make it cool was if you had a photo of the car to go with the piece of wood, there is a guy that uses a laser engraver to engrave the lid of the box for the pens!
Picture a nice wooden box for each pen with the picture of the car it came from laser engraved into the top of the box! I wish I could remember his name. No matter,I can find it easy enough.
I would be happy to pm you my personal info!

    simplyred1962 Thanks this.

Let me plunder thru the garage and see what I have, I'm sure I have a couple of pieces you could use.

    Hey... A fellow buckeye....

My wife used to turn pens too. She made some really great looking ones.

We still have the lathe and what-not, but she hasn't made any in a while.
